I'm building a racing FTO so I pulled the plug on the Targa top project although it would just me amazing to have one though! :( Adds about another 150kgs and just screws your handling up so it would be pretty pointless unless I just wanted a bling car.

I actually made a deal with some dude from New Zealand about an EVO VIII drivetrain and I put a deposit down of $500 and I never heard from the dude again so I got screwed. I don't really care about the money but it's all about the principles. So on the hunt for another wrecked EVO VIII from Japan or should I say my mate up there is looking for one for me.

Anyway if you're keen, I found the best way to do it is to removed the whole FTO drivetrain altogether and replace with a complete EVO drivetrain instead. That way you actually buy suspension and brakes for the EVO which just makes it so much easier and more flexible. When you buy one you just gotta make sure that it's complete, down to the brake hubs and control arms. EVO VII or up would be in your better interest given that you have access to AYC and ACD....imagine that!

Haven't even looked into the gearbox thing coz to be honest I really haven't decided whether I want to use the 4G63 or 6A13 and their respective gearboxes. I can't see which has more potential yet. :?

So to some up, if you can find me an EVO VIII with a working drivetrain then we can start dancing....

It does help, I'd only really want the engine from there and possibly the 5-speed tip box. I'm pretty sure the Galant used a different chassis to the FTO and Lancer so more work to get the drivetrain on the FTO.

I'm not really in any rush as I'm working towards getting the car registered and jumping through hoops to get through this VIV crap. Looking good though most likely be back on the road over the next month. Once the car is registered and roadworthy then I can take it apart again and just keep paying for rego.

so u've decided on the evo convertion eh?

which one would be better as far as overall power and practicality goes the evo conversion or keeping the v6 turbo it (twin turbo it  ) and then run the rest of the AWD gear through it?

btw what chassis did they use for the galant anyway?

sorry if i'm asking stupid questions, this is my version of doing research lol, i have no clue to where even to start figuring out all of it, so i figured i'd just keeping milking ppl that's already done the research for info, and when they get sick of me... move on to the next person lol

That topic has been discussed on this forum actually and I've also read it on the net. I still find it hard to believe the FTO shares the same chassis as the lancer and mirage though. :?

I would prefer to go the 6A13 way if I can mate that to the gearbox....basically rebuild the engine from the ground up. But we're definitely looking at a lot of $$$ coz everything will most likely have to be custom made.

If you go the 4G63 way, we already know that the internals are practically bulletproof so you can run quite a lot of boost without even opening it up. I still think that the power output potential would be a lot greater on the 6A13 if it was done the right way.
