Hey, np Late January, early Feb would probably be better for a track day anyway, it'll give people enough time to save up their $$
Although, everyone will probably complain of being too broke again when the time comes around - You've all had enough warning start saving now
Will be interesting to see how the new Turbo goes up against my superior driving abilities hehe ... Actually I'll just be counting on my car not falling apart completely

Alright. Started looking into this for real....
As i am new to this i may say (or WILL say) some pretty dumb stuff...
Questions i have so far:
Where? Eastern Creek? Queensland Raceway?
Liscencing? Does everyone need a CAMS liscence?
Cost? What is this gonna cost? If too much, can we buddy up with another club?
Equipment? Do we need to fit our cars out with stuff? (fire Extinguisher?)
Track Time? How much time can we get on the track?
I've sent off an email to a guy in the BMW Club Of Queensland.. They are having a practise day at QLD Raceway. But it's not till april... so if that works out to be our bext option i will organise another cruise or two to get us through till then...
Now that the ball is rolling with this. When we confirm an event, i will probably ask for deposits... that way we eliminate all the usual no-shows.
Put your name down if your keen as hell for this!

Okay I got an email back from BMW club...
opinions?
Just posting up Info sheet now....
So this looks like a very good proposition...Sam,
I am on vacation until Jan 8, so I do not have the 07 dates with me, however we have several mid week sessions booked. These are 1/2 days (am or pm) and the track hire is usually around $2500, divided by the runners on the day resulting in an average cost of $150 - $200/car. I have attached the regular info sheet, so this should help explain how the sessions run. You will usually get 5 runs on the track for around 40 laps in total.
BTW, this is a private hire, not a BMW Club day.
Cheers,
Richard.
P.S. We have had to drop the passenger ride sessions, as QR wants an additional $600 for passenger insurance cover.

BOOKING SYSTEM
To make a booking there is a $200 deposit. The + or – amount will be calculated on the final number of people attending and a refund issued if surplus funds exist. (We need 12 people to ‘break even’ at this cost.)
Full payment is required immediately to secure your place on the day.
Track Rules
The following rules will be enforced with no negotiation.
Red Flag. If the red flag and traffic light is out you must slow down and leave the track at the pit lane exit.
Yellow Flag. If the yellow flag and traffic light is out you must reduce your speed to 40kph until the green flag is waved.
Checkered Flag – Signals the end of your session, slow down and exit to pit lane.
General:
1. No Alcohol at the event.
2. No reckless or dangerous driving (burn outs, donuts etc)
Driving:
1. No passengers allowed in your car on the track except for during the passenger session.
2. Do not enter the track from the pit lane until the flag has been waved in front of you.
3. No speeding in pit lane. (40km/h max).
4. Overtaking is only allowed on the main straight(s) after the driver ahead has signaled with indicators or hand.
5. The driver being overtaken must back off and allow the overtake maneuver to occur before the next corner.
6. Strictly no tail-gating. The following driver must maintain at least 2 car lengths (10m) bumper to bumper at any time unless overtaking.
7. Use your rear vision mirrors. Be aware of where you are and who is around you on the track.
Spectators:
1. Must have ankle to wrist to neck clothing, as QR may ask that everyone in pit lane is dressed this way. (Has not happened to our group, but better to be prepared.)
2. There is no sitting on the pit wall – QR will only issue one warning on this.

by the way the way Sam, unless you want to drive to New South Wales for a track day the only tracks up here are Queensland Raceway (or Willowbank to some) and Morgan Park in Warwick. I think there is a track at Stanthorpe as well but I've never been there. That is it until hopefully Lakeside is reopened down your way.
This site is pretty cool for some info on tracks:

Here is some info on Morgan Park:

And this one when the picture actaully works

Thanks Garth.. Yeh so far looking at QLD Raceway.
And Lukas, It doesnt matter who's fast and who's slow... as long as we all have s**t loads of fun.. which i know we all will...
BTW: for those not going, this type of cruise is likely to only happen every 12 months or so... just because of the cost involved as well as all the complexities... so come now or forever be in shame! lol
