That's a wierd problem. This must be some kind of alarm function. My alarm does NOT go off if I keep the car door open with no keys in ignition. And the beeping only starts if key is in the 'accessories' position.

On mine, as long as the key is in the ignition (regardless of position) and the door is open, the beeping will happen. Same noise as you would get if you forgot to turn the headlights off and open the door. I think they are all good features though.

Mine is the same, the beeping will occur as soon as the key enters the ignition (With the car door open). I agree, these are good features.

mines the same, key in ignition with door open but i hate it, the beeping for the lights is good but for the key it pisses me off like nothing else. if im waiting for somebody and i am sitting in the car with my feet out side because im smoking or want a breeze through the car, i have to take the keys out and sit them over the steering wheel. even in acceseries it beeps so to listen to the stereo i have to have the car at on, meaning the air con comes on.

anyway im blabering, just had to say i hate the beeping of the key, i would track down the speaker and jam a screw driver through it but i like the beep for the lights so i guess i just have to deal.

I am not sure if the reversing beeper is the same as the warning you get if you leave the keys in the ignition, but you could always try this to see if it helps:

Oh, and the gear box (manual) is a bit slow and cumbersome when compared to new Honda units. But, Honda do make the best gearboxes on the market. Anyone else tried the new 6 speed in the Euro? The old man has one. Mmmmmmmm.....very tasty!

If I'm not mistaken, Mitsubishi has been voted / awarded as having the best automatic gearbox on the market with the INVECS II, which is in the FTO tiptronic models.

A the risk of getting wildly off topic, I would just like to say that I was talking about the manual gearbox, not the auto. It is just not as good as others. Apart from that, the blind spots are the only problem.

As for my Lancer comment  , I apologise for that as I have always said that the only really important thing is that people enjoy owning and driving their cars. If you happen to disagree, just keep quiet and leave them be!

Yes, EVO's do rock, but that is not exactly what I was talking about...
