re-upholster
hey guys, i managed to get the seat covers from max on they look mad. the seat covers being white and car interior being black is pissing me off so after a bit of running around and a lot of trying to put it off i've decided to pull the car apart and re-upposter/upposter it.
i've got the roof lining and all the back panels as well as the front pillar thingos off (had to take them off to get to the roof lining).
i'm doing this all at home, doesnt seem to be that hard so far, i'm glueing the material at some points but mostly just binding them from behind the panels (it looks great from front on but at the back it's a freaking jungle). i'll take a few photos (once i find the digital camera) soon.
btw can someone help me out with this: you know how the rear panels by the seats have that huge indent in them? how do i upposter this part?

Re: re-uppostering
Borep, you are asking for it mate.....BorepYano wrote:btw can someone help me out with this: you know how the rear panels by the seats have that huge indent in them? how do i upposter this part?
You need to get stitching happening where there are curves.
You can stretch the material a lot by warming it up and then gluing it, however, as it gets colder, it will shrink back and start to form bubbles and then a big mess to get rid of it all.
That’s why you need to cut the size where the curve is and insert/stitch there wider material, which is suitable with the curve.
It is hard to do it at home unless your gf works at clothing company
Why don’t you just paint it?
Easier, cheaper and less time consuming

Yes i would suggest painting it instead as well.
But if you still want to pursuit, the pic below will give you some idea. Keep in mind the door card can be take apart into 3 pieces, while the part you want to do is one single piece, which make stitching through hard plastic almost impossible.

i was going to use velvet and leather originally, then found out that i cant get velvet in the colours i wanted, and cant afford real leather or suede, and fake lether looks real bad, so i ended up using velour.
which is awsome actually, cos it's very forgiving (i've already screwed up a few times but u cant see it
) since it's got a lot of stretch to it.
i've done the front and back posts now, just moving on to the doors and the lower rear panels and realised that it's got that stupid curve in it. i think i can make the door trims so that the crease is hidden (i.e. under the door handle bit), we'll see how that goes.
but as for the rear ones... i'm thinking about making the hole into a sealed compartment, so that i dont have to worry about the curves.
keep the ideas coming guys, if there is a way to do the rear panels (without stiching through hard plastic) then i'll do that, but otherwise i'll prolly have to jusy make up a couple of doors for that.
i dont want to paint it cos... well you try finding a paint that matches the texture and colour of velour lol, and also i've had bad exp with paint (i'm a shocking painter, and everything ive painted seems to get scratched.)

CHRISTIANITY: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

sick into your socks again? this is a normal practice for you? ever thought maybe its your dirty 4day old sock that's making you sick? lolBennoz wrote:Have too agree... it makes me wanna be sick into my sock again. Makes baby jesus cry.

..hmm...now i think about it, that might actually sounds like i'm trying to be harsh

back on topic, i'm not going to go that over board with the different colour patchs,
roof=white
quarter posts = blue (blue for now i might change it if it's too much, i just decided to cut into the blue when i started, didnt really think then

everything panel under the quarter posts (doors + back panels) = white
inside door handles =blue
speaker covers = blue mesh
vents = blue
center console = white but buttons etc r blue
basically, things that will get used + dirty will be blue, everything else white (except quarter posts cos i already did them in blue

when i get around to it,
dash + back parcel = white
use a little imagination, it works in my head right now, but then again i have been convince that i can make a time machine by bolting a super charger to a fridge when i'm drunk

yeah i know, it was for sale on ebay, the interior is a bit over board, hopefully mine wont turn out too over board.
and here's just a quick picture, i've finally finished one piece, the passenger door handle thingo (i'm so technical lol)

so proud.
and i think i'm going to build a box for the rear panels so i dont have to worry about uphostering the concaved bit...
btw, who was it that suggested having the back seats fold down? i'm going to do it, throw ideas at me.
i'm thinking about just changing the top clip bits to a latch, and put hinges at the bottom (chop the bottom bracket thing as high up as i can and just put hinges there to join them)... does anyone have spare back seats for sale? lol i have a feeling i'm going to screw up.

I'd be interested to know what sorts of problems.Samson wrote:Dont put leatherette in your roof.. I was advised the other day not too.. all sorts of probs.. the guy said suede for roof or dash...
and mxysxy is right, it needs to be stitched properly... prob lookin bout $100 per side max. for profesional job... would be well worth it..
I've bought 7 extra sq metres of material to cover my door panels, sunshades, roof lining. also gonna paint my centre console red as well as the air con vents.
and i dont think there's anythign wrong with covering the rooflining with leatherette since I've had plenty of advice from yirrong who did his roof lining with white leatherette
