Gears not showing!??

Post by YYgirl »

Hi guys, I own a 95 FTO GR, I am wondering if the FTOs show what gears we are in when switched to tiptronic? I can not see what gear I am in when using tiptronic! Thanks heaps!

My 95 gpx tip shows what gear I'm in regardless of the position of the gear lever, as it should, first thoughts are you have a dodgy connector down there and flicking it across kills it.
I'll be having my centre console out (again) this weekend, I'll have a look and see if I can see anything obvious for you to check.

you love rubbing it in dont ya...

yygirl... i assume you have the gear indicators on the speedo. its most likely to be a connection problem somewhere along the line... so you can see the indicator change between 1, 2, 3, 4 etc when you are in drive, but you cant when you are in tiptronic mode??

advantage of tiptronic is that you can have your hands free to play with other things and girls. and if youre having one of those days afer youve done some squats or calf excercises, you really start missing the tiptronic.... i dont need to mention the 30 minute traffic jams to move just a few blocks up parramatta road.

but i have my car as mainly a weekend car now... so im lovin the manual

yeh i suspect one of the connectors in the your gearbox console may have been dislodged somehow or the fuse is faulty... should be an easy fix by an auto electrician.

you should take your car to a transmission specialist, coz i'm sure they deal with Tiptronic Magnas before so they should know how to fix it...

...i suppose by now you should already be able to 'feel' which gear you're in anyway...

Ok yygirl, now the stories a bit different!
it could be as simple as your instument cluster being a little loose.
As a test, start your car, then gently push the plastic cover that sits over the dials straight back towards the engine, particularly the left side over the rev counter.
See if your light comes back.

Hi Dash,
I am not sure where the gears are suppose to show. On my revs, there are no boxes like a few FTOs i have seen. However, there are boxes on the bottom middle which never light up, i suspect that could be the spot?
THanks

The gear numbers are right next to the PRND lights

On the dash there is :

.....P
4...R
3...N
2...D
1

Or something similar

yygirl can you even see the PRND lights? almost sounds to me like you have the dials for a manual fto?

by bottom middle you mean under the water temp gauge right? i've never seen those light up on either a tip or manual fto (i've owned both a tip and a manual)... maybe thats a good thing they havent lit up

yygirl, that's really weird that your clocks would have been swapped for a manuals clocks, what's the cars history?
are you the first owner in Oz?

i have a feeling the previous owner was ashamed of the tiptronic, so prob he swapped the tacho for a manual one so it's less obvious when looking inside (except the shifter itself), hehehe... J/K!

...hmmm... never knew clocks were otherwise known as gauges. i've always been told that clock tells the time... see? you learn something new here everyday!
