hey ,guys,i need your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my car had the idling problem last week ,the idle speed was very unstable...some times the revs went up to 3000!!!!and then i took it to the MRT..they suggested me to replace the spark plugs and the timing belt ...ok ..i let them to do these things...they replaced the timing belt, spark plugs, cam seals ,mainfold gasket, they also cleaned the throttle body... i picked up my car yesterday,,the idle speed is pretty good at moment...when i asked the boss yesterday what was the problem with the idle speed?he told me that the spark plug was the main contributing factor...however , when i was trying to start the car this morning (cold engine)...it would not start !!! after a while of reving and the engine got hot..then everything normal ,,,why is that ?? if i didnt step on the gas then it would cut off....like u feel the engine is very weak ???
what's the problem ???
stepper motor?

when the engine is hot ,i can start it like normal ,,but when it's cold ..i can't ... if i don't step on the gas,,the rev would drop down to 0 and the engine cuts off... the only way i can drive the car away is to shift to the 1st gear, like normal drving (release the clutch and then accelerate) to make the car moving until the engine is hot to make rev becomes stable(wouldn' drop to 0)...

So how much were you charged for this service????

Im guessing upwards of $1000.00.

If you knew how an engine works all the things he told you to do is most likely not related to the problems you describe.

Im guessing its either a TPS or ISC fault most likely ISC.

Its an easy fix, give the ISC a good clean and see if the idle is good from cold. If not you probably have to replace the ISC due to a faulty coil. Do a search on how to test the coils, if not take it to a pro to diagnoise.

The reason why your car started alright when you picked it up from the mechanics is because the car was already warm. You started the car up in the morning as it was cold it would not idle without your foot on the gas.

When your car is warn, turn on the AC do revs rise or drop? If they drop its an ISC fault.

When you place the car in park or nutural when warm does the rpm substantially rise? ISC fault.

Its a common fault, and its easy to fix.

thank you very much for your advice !!!~~ yeh ,i think its sth wrong with the ISC..many FTO have the same problem because of the ISC(stepper motor) as i read the UK FTO FORUM last night... the major service was charged for $1550 ..(spark plugs, clean the throttle body, timing belt ,cam seals, manifold gasket..they said that coz my car is alreay 10yrs old ,although the kms is only 56ks ,the timing belt still need to be replaced...this morning i went to MRT at 7.30 the time before they starting to check and replace the ISC,,they were going to charge me $430 for the ISC ($340 for the part, and $90 for the labour),i changed my mind and took my car back immediately coz i already knew what was the problem with the car...i went to a warehouse to get a ISC for only $195!!!! big difference ha.~!~~genuine part ,not 2nd hand..it's 2nd version..won't fail ,thats what the seller told me ...and then i asked my friend(mechanic)to fit the ISC for me...we disconnect the battery, reset the ecu ... ...it looks good at moment,,the engine start is ok,idle speed is very stable...i will check it again tmr morning (just let the engine completely cold)..hope everything will go well..
if anyone of u guys have the same problem and cant figure out ...i may be able to help you out .....and tell u the address where u can get the genuine and cheap ISC from ... the idling problem has been annoying me for 2wks ..i hope this nightmare alreay ended ..

at least you got the other stuff done as it needs to a 10 year old car!!

But too bad it wasnt the problem in the first place.
