Hey all,

i need a little bit of advice. I was driving down the road on the way back from work today and all of a sudden i see a cyclist get cleaned up by a lady opening their car door. The back wheel swung around and took my mirror off as well pushing in my wheel arch panel and scratching and scuffing the paintwork right up the door.

I quickly pulled over and ran to check on the bloke riding the bike as i thought he may have been partially cleaned up by myself as he was thrown by the door. Thankfully i didnt hit him but he appeared dazed and unsure of what was going on. After i made sure he was ok, i began to try to collect the details of the driver and rider.

The rider was still dazed but refusing an ambulance. so i decided to get the car drivers details. They flat out refused. An agrressive bloke got out of the car and started yelling at me and refused to give details. He then asked the bike rider if he wanted to be driven somewhere, to which the biker said yes please and the agressive bloke hurredly bundled the driver into their car with his bike (before i could talk to him).

After telling me to essentially f*** off a number of times, he got back in the car and sped away.

i quickly went to the police station a few minutes away and made a report (still waiting on the police investigation number). I gave the cops the details of the accident (what happened) and persons car rego. They said that it is unlikely i will be able to recoup the money i will need to repair the car.

i will call the insurance company first thing tomorrow to see where i stand but if you have any advice please help me out. I just had to make a claim for damage caused by an idiot while my car was parked and i was away (which they didn't leave a note). I cannot afford to pay another grand and another premium rise (especially since rego and insurance is due next month)

Cheers,

Gus

let your insurance company deal with it, the car in front refusing to give details, is an offense, and the police should be prosecuting them
