Could be the thrust (throwout) bearing. If it is typically you'd hear the noise upon acceleration (notsomuch on idle), and ceases when the clutch is in.

Apart from the noise, this generally doesn't pose a risk and can be replaced when you replace the clutch next. Otherwise it's gearbox out job.

it happens when the car is stationary.. like shifting from N to 1st. In fact, dont have to shift, just pressing it in makes a squeaky noise.

No, i dont have an fto, but yes, this is a known problem with a few mitsubishi gearboxes (including 4g93, 4g92, and mivec/dohc/turbo versions of same). The throwout bearing likes to wear out. Can also lead to "Rattling" noises occasionaly at idle.
Pretty easy part to replace, next time your clutch needs replacement/machining.
given other vehicles in the mitsu family commonly experience this fault, it's a fairly safe bet. Cant hurt to replace regardless, how many km's does the box have?

Of course it could be simpler. Cable or hydraulic clutch? Again, just on 4g93's, i know some lancers have cable, others hydraulic, with no apparent reason (ie, dissimilair years/models). could be as simple as the cable/pedal box assembly not having grease on a spot...
or, if hydro, a slightly leaky/old pressure seal on the master/slave cylinders.

I had a very squeaky clutch pedal once (lancer). all it needed was some oil on the "spring" at the top of the clutch pedal. May as well start small :P

does the "Squeak" sound "in-cabin?". Can you hear it better if your cars parked next to a solid, sound reflective wall? can you get a friend to hop in the car and just slowly pump the clutch pedal while you try tracking it down?

That is a sign of lack of use.

Its usually the actuator arm that the slave cylinder pushes out to disengage the clutch. Unfortunately the hinge point is inside the box.... Rarely will it go bang / break but have it lubed during the next g-box out job you have done.

I have this problem too. On mine it's been confirmed as the little ball joint just outside the engine on the right hand side (looking front on). Lubrication fixes the problem for a short while but not for long. Not sure what I'm going to have to get done to stop it.
