Greetings all...I have just joined FTO Australia very recently & I am amazed at the sheer quality of the site as well as the astounding amount of support between members. Definately one of the best auto groups around. I have (I am ashamed to admit it!) been under the dark cloud of the typical young aussie males fascination with great big, heavy, poorly built australian V8's! YES YES YES! I 'was' a V8 Holden Commodore owner! And YES YES! I wasted thousands of $$$ on this hulking beast! But I have seen the light...And it was in the shape of a gorgeous silver Mitsubishi FTO here in my hometown of Townsville, North Queensland! Now that I have been liberated I am saving my pennies as quickly as I can and I will be selling that uninspiring lump of V8 rubbish in order to attain one of these beauties as soon as possible! I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for me when buying my FTO in the near future... All opinions will be greatly appreciated!

welcome to the group.

this link will give you detailed information on each model
http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... ries&cid=2

Things to consider are
  • Year
KM's (ignore if first owner in Australia as they are all doctored)
    Modifications (quality of them)
    Manual / Tiptronic
Sunroof (many owners have had issues with theirs)
Mivec V6 or Standard V6 (the GR imho is a under rated car and has a lot of potential)
yes i'm a GPX owner ;)

thanks for the compliments on the site i've worked very hard to ensure its accurate and has a lot of relevant information (so have many of our members)

Depends what you mean by 'better'...
GPvR is lighter, has better bodykit (IMO), is almost certainly newer, has them strut brace thingies.
GPX has folding mirrors, climate control...

Can't think of the other differences

so apart from those features... theres no difference performance wise?

Tim

BTW, sorry about jacking the thread :P

Because the GPvR doesn't have the climate control or electric mirrors it is a bit lighter, so technically it is faster, i don't know how much though.

Nope, cause they are origanal FTO seat & rail from Sparco,it even still got the origanal stickers in Japanese which stated they are for the V6 FTO. They are also reclinable so they are legal in aus.

Hey FTO338,

Where did you get the seats from?
Just out of curiosity.

Btw, GPvR is basically exactly same as the GPX but has taken all the luxury out, as I remember it hasn't got a very good sound proof either as they had to be taken out as well.
So as you have already heard, it is faster as it doesn't have any thing...
But I think GPX is still better...

As you guys already know.

Cheers,

Hhahahaa with the sort of setup MADFTO running even with the best sound proofing u will still hear the thunder inside his car, so GPX doesn't really help 4 him!!!! 4 those who never heard or since his GPvR it sounds like a Harley on steroid.

The seats are from Japan & they are the Limited edition Sparco Millennium. I got an importer friend bring them in 4 me, & its a once off so i don't know where u can get it from in OZ.

Just curious now, apart from me & Scracy who got those Limited edition Recaro Tomcat, anyone else in this forum got a full bucket seat that reclinable in their FTO.

SK, in Sydney you can get Sparcos from Race & Rally at Greenacre, or Recaros from Roman Autotek at Rhodes. If you want the address let me know. They're not cheap as I considered them before. Looking at $1000+ for a seat. Go leathers I'd say!
