Well i'm sure most of you had seen the BP Master card on TV by now, where you save 5% on anything you buy from BP, including Petrol. And i know lots of us use BP Ultimate.

So i went and get the form and read all the T&C. And heres what kind of saving i might get from it.

Average monthly Petrol cost $541 (for two cars)

Magazine per month $15.9

Total of $556.9 a mth or $6682.8 p.a

After 5% discount, its equal to 6348.66, thats a saving of $334.14

Now heres the T&C

Annual Fee $79 pa and $30 for addional card holder. $109 in total

So the real saving for me is $225.14 p.a ($18.76 per mth) So i'm really saving around 3.5% or 5c a Litre, base on $1.50 (Ultimate) and not 7.5c

But if the petrol price keep going up, and the annual fee stay the same, then we can really see some big saving.

Hmm this would be sensible if I only use this to purchase petrol from BP (and ciggies) and for nothing else, then this would make sense.. if only i can control myself NOT to use the cc, this would definately a big way to save $$$ on petrol!

simple mate, just ask them to reduce the limit to $500, you won't get much apart from petrol then.

I just signed up, i only ever buy my fuel from BP so it will be great for me!

Plus the $50 free fuel with the first use! Boo Ya Kasha!!!

To increase the saving i will just make sure i go down to the BP for other products rather then just going to the 7/11.

It seems like a great idea!

Well, although i didnt see this anywhere from CitiBank themselves, i saw this on the Today Tonight website.

"But there are a couple of catches. The maximum discount claimable on the card is $15 per month. It has an annual fee of $79 and a hefty interest rate of 17.95 per cent."

So:

12 x $15 = $180

$180 - $79 = $101

So if this information is correct then you can only save a maximum on $101 a year.

I will be contacting CitiBank to verify this information, as if it is true it makes the card a lot less worthy....

You're correct, dam i missed that clever marketing wording....
5% cash back rebates with BP are limited per account to the first $300 you spend at participating outlets each statement period.

hmmm they are very cheeky!

well, that $101 + $50 (free fuel voucher that you receive 2 months after first using the card)

= $151

If your really broke (and drive a fair bit) might be worth it for 1 year, but hardely worth it after that.

I'm going to cancel my app. tomorrow i think...
