For the past few weeks bout every 4 days i need to refill my cluch fluid up. really annoying problem not having a clutch. ive taken it to a mechanic to get it checked out and he found that the Cluch master cylinder is leaking slightly where it attaches to the firewall. but moresore leaking heavaly down at the Slave cylinder.
im not sure if anyone has had this prob before but looks like it gonna cost about 200 to fix each leak. however i wanted to know whether i need specific mitsu or FTO Slave cylider or is there generic? is there part number by chance? or if this common problem (and mechanic screwing with me) and i just need new seals throughout?
where the Master leaks is obvious to me and know i need it there but any help with slave be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

I've replaced both slave and master cylinders on my car. So I guess it's pretty common.
The slave is located at the front of your gear box from memory. It's this L shaped tube with a pin sticking out from one end and a bleeding nipple at the other end. See pic below.
If you remove the black cover and there's fluid in there, then it's leaking and either needs to be reconditioned or replaced. I just replaced mine as it's a wear and tear item.

Yes they are both Mitsubishi specific parts. Best place to get them is from kempys in NZ
www.kempys.co.nz
Master is about $180 new, Slave is $110.
Alternatively you can have them reconditioned. A simple reco kits includes a light hone of the bores & a seal kit, a more extensive reco can include having bores sleeved.

I'm looking at the same problem at the moment, what would reconditioning set me back? Can the replacement parts be found in Melbourne?

For the master cylinder there is a Mitsubishi reco kit available for it.
Depending on the type of master cylinder you have - there are 2 types:
MR235341 is the Mitsubishi part number for the reco kit of a master cylinder in cars manufactured Sep 94 to Aug 95. This unit is distinguishable from the others as the actual resevior on this unit is held on by a type of hose clamp to the body of the unit.
The other type of unit has a full moulded plastic resevoir. It was fitted on all FTO's post Aug 95. Part number for its reco kit is MR272770.
From memory both kits are around the $50 mark from Mitsubishi. Kempys can also supply them.
Note - if you have to replace the whole unit, the later model master will fit in place of the older type without issue.
The slave cylinder has no reco kit available as such, but it can be done with generic parts. The main o-ring is a common size & your local mechanic should be able to reco it for you.
