anyone using 205/45/R17 tyres?

I'll be picking up my new wheels soon (17's) and i need some decent rubber.
Note - the car will be lowered on King Springs.

According to the miata tyre calculator i need a 205/45/R17 for my speedo to have the least amount of variance.

It says here http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... age&pid=27 that you need a 205/40/R17 tyre to avoid rubbing. However this will put my speedo out by 2.6%.

So my question - is anyone using 205/45/r17 & has their car lowered on king springs? If so do they rub?

well im using 215/35 on 18"... and i've got a shitload of space between my wheel archs and tyres!! so u'll definately without a doubt be ok and it won't scrub!!

It wont weally matter. I just put om 215/40/17's, which I think a lot of people have.

Toyo Proxes 4's - nice tyres too.

Go for 215/45/17. More rubber on the ground and less bumpy and it wont rub trust me. I've got them on and got a ton of space with lowering springs.

I have lowered springs and 17" rims.

I recently purchased through my tyre mate a set of Goodyear F1s blah blah and went 215/45/17. Doesn't rub/scrub...215 should be a little bit wider and look a bit cooler IMO and I don't think the price differs that much.

Generally for a 16" u will use a 50, 17" u will use a 45 profile while on an 18" u will go a 40...as a rule of thumb and of course this can change depending on a few things.

Ok, its more the speedo varience i'm worried about (if i go for 215/45). Does it annoy any of you?

EDIT: How about a 215/40/r17 that is closer match than a 215/45. Would there be a noticable diference in ride comfort between the two?

in theory the 45s would be better for ride. however the quality of the tyre plays a big factor in this also and its compound.

Well, I have just changed from 45 to 40 series. No difference at all. It was tight/bumpy before, and it is much the same now! However, I used to scrape/rub heaps, and not it does not do it at all (pretty much).

Go with the lower profile - trust me! Looks better on the rim, car sits lower, (should) handle better....all wins if you ask me.

i recently changed from a 45 to another 45 and the difference was amazing. the quality of the tyre is very important. Get a quality 40 and as mrx says it looks awsome and will sit lower...in the end the fto suspension is quite hard and bumpy and your not getting much improvement until u get a 15" rim with 55s - eeeeww.

Alright thanks guys. Will go for a 215/40.

Anyone have any tyre recommendations? Idealy around $200 a tyre? Currently looking at the Yokohama A Drives

Well, I got Toyo Proxes 4's for about $190 per tyre, but have not driven on them enough to give you feedback!

Can tell you they have the highest heat rating and tread wear rating, the tread pattern looks good.....and they are round. And black.

Up to you really. Could have got some yoko's or Nexens that a lot of drift guys use in Adelaide. They actually seem OK too.

Don't get Falkens though if it ever rains where you are.

I have on 215/40/17 on RT615. Now that its turbocharged i need something pretty good and I have to say I am impressed with them. I usually like trying different tyres but think i would rebuy these.

you mean the r in r17? thats means radial so I'm not sure what you don't like about it as 98% of the tyres you buy are radial. Unless your talking about the specific falken R series.

they are ok...used some similar ones on my skyline...but they are comming off as they are noisy and sh*t in the wet.

Yeah, considered the Azenis, but the problem is the price, the fact they will be dodgy in the wet (on a virtual daily driver these days) and they will not last very well either.

Was tempting though.

I went for the Yokohama A.Drives in 215/40/R17. I got a good deal bundled with 4 x ROH Shift R 17"x7"'s - http://www.jdwheels.com/images/roh%20shift%20r.jpg

It looks good but really needs lowering, i have a set of King Springs ready to put in. The wheels are +45 offset so i hope it will be fine once the springs are in.
