$180 trip to work...

I'm driving to work this morning, same way I drive everyday. There's 2 lanes, and a small lane opens up to the right for people who wanna go right. the middle lane has the overflow of people wanting to turn right so i can either wait in the middle lane for 10 minutes for all the people to turn right or i can go in the left lane, like everybody always does, and it's a T2 lane.
There's a cop standing on the corner waving me to turn left into the street, and there's alrdy abt 5 cars there. He gets my license, tells me i was driving in a transit lane and says "well i got some good news, there's no demerits involved", hands me a fine for $189 and I just drive off.
So while I was there, for 2 minutes, that's about almost a 1000$ in fines they've issued. I'm guessing they've easily got a quota of 10 gran this morning at a minumum.. stupid people like me copped a fine
can't believe it

I don't know if this is true, I was talking to a guy in my break at work, he used to work at RTA in the office, he said if I get a speeding fine and I lets say the fine is for $100. If i sent in 110.05, then legally they have to send me a cheque back because it's over $10 that I've paid.
Now, if I don't bank that cheque, after 12 months the "open invoice" gets deleted off the system by default as it's been for that 12 months, I havn't cashed in the chq, so the invoice has been closed and written off, and I don't loose any demerits. He says he's done this numerous times, and it's a loop hole.
I don't know if this works, I've never got a speeding fine yet, but he was pretty confident when he told me

A mate of mine told me that he has done this as well. It didn't need to be over $10. I believe it was only slightly over the amount requested. It stopped him from losing his license, however still had to pay for the actual fine.

yeah those bullshit fines are annoying.. i remember earlier this year i got 2 fines in one hit for parking outside my house.. for parking the wrong way around, and for parking on the grass next to the curb (there wasn't even a sidewalk.. or anything) cos apparently i was half on council land
