I have always wanted to do a replacement of shockies, just so i can say that i have done it. I am sure it is easy, like everything, with the right tools..

$400 is a nice price too for a set of new quality shockies.....

wish i had a hoist..( i am sure everyone does!)

the thing is...when you are as skilled as me you dont need a hoist to put in shocks. plus i saved myself a fortune, learned something new, learned a lot about my car and how things work.
its as easy as putting in a bolt!

Then perhaps a DIY guide is in order, since you are an expert

You do need to compress the springs... but a $35 dollar pair of spring compressors from your local auto shop will do the job nicely. You dont have to compress them on the car, its when you get the whole strut out & want to remove the strut tops

nah man, I just squished em down with my bare hands! aaarrrrrrgggghhhhh
he he its all getting a bit funny...
Lenny...if you need a hand with anything let me know. i'd be more than happy to help guide you in the right directions... there are plenty of people willing to help out here too. Cars are just like lego, its really not that hard. plenty of research goes a long way. its very satisfying knowing how everything works on your car and knowing you did some of it yourself. its also important to know when you need help and ask for it...

new tyres go a long way in your suspension woes....

I didnt need spring compressors for factory shocks/springs. Didnt appear to be a big load on them.

As Bennoz said - they're not hard to come by anway.

One of these days i would like to replace the shocks and all the arm bushes at the front.

Might have to employ some guidence with this. Getting sick of paying mechanics $$$$ and not necessarily getting the best of work done...

I just ring Precision today, according to the parts number, the front pair is for Volvo V40... it's sounds a bit funny to me, and they told me it come in struct for the front as well ? For those who already bought and fitted, could you please confirm the parts number for me and also are they prefectly fit? the rear one is for Mitsubishi Mirage with the shocks only, I think this sounds more sense to me !! Thanks for everyone's help, just want to confirm and don't want to order wrong parts.

Confirmed they are the right part numbers. The rears are the same as a Mitsubishi mirage. The shock are not just inserts they are complete strut assemblies - this is what you get:
