Accolades:

"Best Innovative Conversion" CHCH Autosalon '06 (Just the one so far)

Modifications (Engine):

Big front mount intercooler by Race Radiators.

3" Mandrel bent exhaust from flexi back by Spec.

Intercooler piping and intake fabricated by Spec.

Gearbox has been modified with better internals and a strengthened Dif head, don't know the specifics.

Transmission cooler piped in series with factory radiator mounted one.

Modified engine mounts so the engine/gearbox sits lower in engine bay.

GFB BOV.

Simota Air Filter.

GFB Boost Controller.

Modifications (Cosmetic):

Enkei RP03 18" Alloy Wheels with 215/35/18 Nankang NS II tyres rear and Kumho (somethings) on the front (could also be classed functional, depends on my mood).

Rear spoiler removed.

Modifications (Functional):

Modified centre console, ash tray deleted to house Boost and Oil Pressure guages.

D2 Coilovers, fully adjustable.

Modifications (ICE):

Sony MP3 had unit

Pioneer Kevlar cone 6 1/2" front coaxials

Kenwood 6x9's (Rear)

sh*tty Amp/Sub combo

Planned modifications:

Replacement of restrictive factory intake piping, the front turbo intake makes a couple of almost 90 degree turns and crimps down to less than an inch of width in both of those places and when it twists around the transmission filter. DONE!

Remote mounting of both the Oil filter and Transmission filter.

Installation of a transmission cooler. DONE!

Replacement/relocation of Intercooler piping and remounting of BOV to a better location.

Installation of 3" mandrell bent exhaust system from Y-pipe back. DONE!

Installation of a set of Tein coil over shocks (thanks to JayMe). DONE! But were D2's lol.

Relocation of Air Filter and AFM closer to headlight and heatshield/box made up to suit.

Installation of an intercooler watersprayer.

Carbon Fibre bonnet replacement with one similar to this:

Issues to be ironed out:

Small oil leak from front turbo, think it is from the oil return line, pending investigation. (Got the major leak sorted, was just the oil filter not sealing properly, a service fixed that). FIXED!

Loud whistling noise when on full boost in 2nd or 3rd gear. Not usually in 1st long enough to notice. Think this may be the sound that people are saying sounds like an external when they hear it. May be a by product of restrictive FTO exhaust. Or may be a loose dump pipe. Pending investigation. FIXED! Was a leaking flange on factory exhaust that was also being held on by a cable tie :O

Oil pressure guage appears to be faulty, when ignition is on, the needle shoots above 100 (see the above picture) and there is no movement when the engine is running. May be faulty sender, or maybe my wiring is not right (doubt the last one, it is pretty simple).

Free Plugs, check these guys out if you need work done:

Spec Performance, St Asaph Street CHCH.

Flexi Weld, corner St Asaph and Barbadoes Streets CHCH, (centre console), also modify/repair bodykits, seems a lot of panelbeaters contract out to these guys, may be helpful to check with them first.

Race Radiators, (FMIC).

Big thanks to Dylan Price for an exceptional job done transplanting this engine.

Very nice indeed 8)

Your one of a small number of folk that have had that transplant done... There's a couple on this forum whom Im sure you'll speak to soon.

Have you had a chance to run it down the strip or get any output figures on it?

Cheers,
Ben

Unfortunately I didn't do the conversion, I traded my GPX (I had actually already put a $500 deposit on another engine for my GPX but found this car) for it with the guy that built it. BUT I am in touch with the guy still, any questions can be passed onto him no problem.

Haven't run it down the strip yet, no traction, hanging out for the coilovers from JayMe (I see he is on this forum too, I am INeedNOS on Msport).

I will keep you all aprised but I am expecting some decent times once I can get the power down cleaner.

One major issue with it is that there is no LSD and the left wheel spins with a vengeance, think I am about to break an axle. I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

When you start getting traction, then you'll start snapping driveshafts. The guys here can sympathise with that!

welcome to the 6A13 club it looks very nice

with the suspension before you buy talk to the supplier and get them revalved for drag racing, hardest setting for the strip softest setting for the road. It will help with your traction issues, will minimise wieght transfer if they valve them right.

I spoke to fulcrum suspension about revalving and they said no problem to do just contact them when i am ready

phone number is 61 7 38929000 they are in queensland and are the australian distributors for tein

http://www.fulcrumsuspensions.com.au/

but tires and suspension first if you got traction issues and maybe try a electronic boost controler that can be set for each gear

How much does something like that cost? I know you didn't do it yourself but does anyone have a rough idea?

If anyone is waiting on suspension for a high power setup, please wait a few weeks... when the car gets back it is being taken to fulcrum where they are building a set of coilovers for it in conjunction with Tein. much better than anything available atm...

Also, nice work mate... it looks awesome... where you located?

I'm in New Zealand, Christchurch to be specific.

Forgot to mention, had it on the strip few months ago (pre the zorst/IC work etc), had a best of 13.856 @ 100.4 mph. Was way too cold though that day, no VHT and I had to feather it off the line because of wheelspin. That said, there was a distinct lack of top end urge above about 150k.

Will be interesting to see now though, as it pulls all the way to the redline.

I am possibly over confident, but with traction (being warmer now) I think I could get a 12. An LSD would help, but that can wait til I rebuild the gearbox, it's on its way out.

As for price, I had a workshop look a the work, they said about $8-$9k for the conversion without the latest mods (using factory exhaust and intake and the factory VR4 IC piping etc). That's NZD too. This conversion cost waaaaay less than that as the guy who did it did it all himself at home I believe. He is an engineer btw.

Hope that helps. I am a fan of the bigger block and the torque that it affords over the 2l engine.
