No1 id an idiot...both of u were correct it appears. Refering to Bens post there is a differnece between the elec and mech sections of the manual which makes it confusing. Using the spark and lead setup as a guide and knowledge that the FTO uses a wasted spark setup on the compression stroke form the coil packs..

forgetting about the documents and using the below as a reference and knowning which lead and coil pack are connected:

2 4 6 BACK bank
1 3 5 FRONT bank
---------
The coil packs are connected as : 1/4, 2/5. 3/6 respectively. which matches the Technical Manual coil pack configs...so therefore the above numbers are correct representation of the configuration.

Based on this the firing order seems to be 1,2,3,4,5,6 based on this configuration....however if u number the cylenders like this

---------
4 5 6 BACK bank
1 2 3 FRONT bank
---------
then its 1/6, 3/4 and 5/6
or 1,4,2,4,3,6.

Based on my limited understanding of the crank angles and V6 theory but each once contributed 60 degress to make up one full revolution. The should be more obvious from the camshalft I guess.

ok i appologise for my comment, all i could see happening is the firing going 123456 with leads connected and the engine rotating like an off centre washing machine and it may even rip the engine mounts out, see that happen with a v8 motor before

Thats the firing order I have been told for the V6 mitsubishi engines 1,2,3,4,5,6... for wasted spark ignition I just remember as 1/4,2/5,3/6.

If you have a look in the Greddy Emanage manual it shows V6 ignition timing as 1,2,3,4,5,6.

there is some inconsistancy regarding the cylender numbering from the elec and mech manauls. see above.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but we've just been through the nightmare of finding out exactly what the firing order was... seeing as Im now running 6 individual coil packs (ie 1 per cylinder)

We tried just about every combination above without success. Its just now been fired up. The correct orientation and firing order is:

Rear Bank
135
246
Front bank

And the order is as mentioned 1,2,3,4,5,6.

I haven't been on here for ages, been a long time since I sold my FTO, I'm in the process of putting a 1MZ-FE in my MR2 which is a V6 and in the workshop manual the firing order is 1,2,3,4,5,6 which is pretty much the same as many other V6's.

But straight 6's their firing order is 1,5,3,6,2,4

P.S. Bennoz all I can say is Holy, last time your car had just a GR motor, great to see there are more FTOs out there with some balls lol.
