Best RPM to shift in tip

I drive a tip and when I wanna take off really quick I actually leave it in auto mode and it automatically shifts at 8K RPM.
What I'm curious about is whether some people here shift at a specific RPM to get that extra punch and dropped higher in the power band in the next gear.
Any thoughts?

A dyno test will tell you... the point at which the torque curve dips is when its time to shift.

yo Joel...
havn't done too much work on this really be I am finding that the 1st gear ration is kinda useless. I'm hitting MIVEC quickly and shift at say 6/6.5k to get into seconds as its just too slow to get to max RPM...you get a awsome kick above 4k in 2nds and it goes well over 100kmph...
so i have been trying to work out how early is ok without letting the revs dip too much when going into second. so far I'm on 6-6.5k..
yeah the dyno will tell ya...but booting it around is more fun..

why do you care mate,
since when you take your FTO to 8k rpm,
Last time I drove behind you for half hour, you never went over 3k rpm,
You drive like a granny mate,
Anyways, wanna play tennis tommorrow, let me know

Sorry man there's just too many cops around to really take a chance these days. Out of all the cars on the road, you should know that the first cops will notice will be the hot looking jap import.
Leave the crazy driving to the track I say!
By the way, how many people on here have got a motor over 200000km without a rebuild? hehehe

rev the crap out of it!
Max power is produced at 7500rpm so basically shifting before 7500rpm is a waste of power anyway!

auto or manual??? 1st gear is pretty short so i guess reving it as much as possible and get as high in the rev range for second is the best solution for an auto.

generally I don't rev it that hard. Maybe I'm driving to slow.

if you shift at 6000rpm it basically puts the engine under so much load it takes forever to get the rpms back! Thats in the 4 speed anyway.

As Bennoz said, whenever the torque curve dips is the time to change. Especially on stock cars, as the gearbox would have been mated with the torque curve of the engine.
Power is irrelevant, as it is a function of torque and RPM.

So if I let the car rev all the way to 8k rpm then what rpm will that usually drop me down to in 2nd gear? Mivec range?

you wont be able to change from first straight into 2nd gear mivec.
You will drop in at about 5k rpm and have a quick moment till mivec kicks in at 5800 rpm.
It gets there pretty quick, but not straight away =)
