hi guys, can anyone tell me how to recondition and check my stepper motor???
Welcome to the f**king old FTO Australia forums!!

HOW TO TEST YOUR STEPPER MOTOR
Try this if you can get your mits on a multimeter.
Look at the plug, on the motor, it should look like this :
clip
.....\
___M___
[1][2][3]
[4][5][6]
I've labelled the pins 1 through to 6
With the engine warm, test the resistance between 2 and 1 and then between 2 and 3. You should get a reading of 28 - 33 ohms.
Then again with 5 and 6, then 5 and 4. You again get a reading of 28 - 33 ohms.
If you don't, then the coil in the motor is fried. Replace the motor or get it re-wound (probably cheaper to replace it !)
If that works OK, then the motor should be OK. ]
TAKE CARE WITH THE NEXT BIT
To test the motor you will need a 6 volt power supply some wire and lots of patience ! Firstly, use the additional wire to break the positive and negative wires from the psu into two.
Connect the positive wire to 2 and 5 (which are positive-common)
Then connect the negative wire in the following sequence of pairs
1 & 4
3 & 4
3 & 6
1 & 6
1 & 4
Then repeat in the opposite direction.
This should make the motor move in steps (hence it's name) backwards and forwards. You should feel the motor move, although it may not do anything on the first pass at all.
If the motor works then I'd check the cabling to the motor. It may also be a sensor.
If you don't feel or hear any vibration then the motor is faulty and you need to get yourself a new one.
