RSPEC VTEC YO!!!!!/MIVEC controller

Hey,
I seen on other forums that someone was selling a RSPEC VTEC YO!!!!!/MIVEC controller for $300.. n i was jus wondering what is was??

whats the advantage of having one of this thing? and does it help make the car faster or anything?
all i got is basic mods air and exhaust

they don't do a hell of a lot you can adjust when your second set of cams comes in and other things it depends on how advanced the mivec controller is...
problem is only way to tune it properly is to spend a few hours on a dyno and this can be quite expensive.

provided that you have other mods done to the engine, particularly head porting, upgraded camshafts, different ECU etc, MIVEC controllers are a waste of time and money and if you were to fit one on a relatively std FTO (even with exhaust & air filter), chances are you will more than likely lose power as a result...
Mitsubishi spent millions on the MIVEC technology to get it right and because it's such a highly tuned motor from the factory, it's also very sensitive to mods... like they say - if it ain't broke, don't fix it hehehe...

if you are just using the mivec controller to adjust when the different cam timing comes i cant see how that would have a negative effect upon the cars performance

You will lose mid-top end (depending on how you adjust them) because the factory setting for the MIVEC activation point has been set at optimum RPM for the best response and efficiency.
By changing the MIVEC activation point, you are effectively compromising performance if there are no other mods (mentioned above) to support the change...
This has been a widely publicised fact online and on magazinee both here and abroad...

these things increase fuel
so increasing fuel ..... wouldnt that increase power or torque?

Hello,
As it was said above....it really depends which one you have...
I have one in my FTO but I got mine for free...So a mechanic friend of mine put it on....
It's fun every now and then but not using it all the time...
What mine does is:
It changes the MIVEC point to any where you want...I have tried all rpms...reasonable ones ofcourse...and realised that too early does make the car slower...and too late is really not much point...
So the factory setting is at 5000rpm...and mine at the moment is 4500rpm...and it seems ok...
Also, it gives you a digital read out of the speed...
And a digital read out of the rpm...you'll be surprised how different it is to an anlog ones...I rely on digital ones more as they are more acturate..
And it allows you to change the fuel input + or - 30%. And you can adjust the fuel consumption at every rpm in 1000 units. e.g. you can add 10% more at 1000rpm and you can add 25% at 2000rpm...etc..
So it's not that bad....but only cause I got mine for free....I wouldn't pay $1000 for one though....that's how much mine costs at the moment when I checked it on the Japan's web site....since it's a Japanese brand..

increasing the fuel without the necessary amount of air into the mixture will cause the combustion to lean out (due to excessively rich fuel mixture) and result in detonation or pinging which can cause severe damage to the engine.

I've got FIELD too. I just plugged it in and want to see the difference.
Does yours have SFC mode? If it does, what is the best air/fuel ratio you use on your setting?
I might adopt trial n error method to get the best setting

Errrr, Mikey . . . I spot an error =P
Adding more fuel into the mix won't lean the fuel mixture out . . .
you'll just get a rich mix and start getting unburnt fuel and more carbon deposits.
Provided the amount of air in the mixture remains the same:
If you reduce the fuel to the point of detonation, then that's called leaning out.
Reducing fuel = leaning the mixture
Increasing fuel = enriching the mixture
Just had to clear that up just in case people didn't know.
