FTO AUSTRALIA

ok so I use either Optimax extreeme or BP Ultimate.

I filled up on BP Ultimate...did my normal Kms to and from work and once the low light came on i drove for another 40km and filled up with Extreeme

I did 550 km and put in 52 litres. thats 10.57 km per litre. i.e. for the full 60litres I would have got 550+(10.57*8~84) = 630km

This is my benchmark. I do the same kms all week so the test will be repeated...I drive more agressive than avergae but for the most part crusie on the fwy for 60% of the time.

Now I have Opt. Extreeme. I reset the ECU when i got home and started driving to work this week. Lets see how I go.

Following this I will change the fuel filter..and repeat. This should tell with some certainty whats going on...and if its worth it however I noticed the pick up is better with the 100RON today already..

I think we have already established a fairly rough assesment of fuel consumption.

In the end, it comes down to the car, the driver, and the area you drive in, and it can change every week if any of these variables alter a bit.

this is not a rough estimate of fuel consupmtion but a guide to see how much difference the 100RON will make over 98 with the same driver/car and conditions...then the fuel filter.

what i meant was that there will still be a certain fluctuation that will mask the true results and that in the end while it should show a level of improvement, you cant really tell how much is related to the change in fuel and how much to other conditions...

but i do await the results!

I found without fail using Optimax or Synergy under normal driving conditions gets you lots more km's out of your tank than using Premium petrol or anything lower than that. So much so that at the very least it evens out in the end with the price jump. I may pay more per litre but heck I get well over 50km more out of a full tank. ATM I'm on 550km and I haven't even got the warning light yet.

It was the same with my 96' Fairmont Ghia. Even if it just balanced out your doing your engine a favour by using 98 octane stuff cos of all the extra stuff they put in it.

Would love to know which is best between Optimax or Synergy though.

yeah I know but its the best I can do really....I will run it a few times (cos I still need to drive to work lke everyday!)

but I'm more intrested to see if its worthwith buying the 100RON over 98...

Personal experience in the FTO and R33 is that Extreme definitely makes a difference. Both cars get greater mileage with it, idle is smoother too.

The 33 has a knock sensor and is tuned for 98, but regardless knock levels are significantly reduced with Extreme. I also had my filter and pump taken out and tested after running Extreme for a week, no problems at all.

On the other forums several vehicles have had dyno tuning with Extreme and realised fairly decent gains over 98RON fuels.

So I'd recommend it. Unfortunately the distribution network is still quite small and Shell currently has no plans to expand it as their supply is limited.

extreme is 15c over the standard price and im in sydneys inner west, where can i fill up extreme? ive only tried it at hurtsville...

yeah kid extreeme ran better in my FTO and in my R33...I will alwasy use it...as for 5% ethanol and ppls concerns its no big deal at these levels...it makes my FTO much smoother thats for sure. I have been using it for some months and decided to put in 98 cos the wife was only driving it...but now I am and noticed it as soon as i changed over...

most of the performace guys said the extreeme is def. better and have proved it on the dyno they reckon...so i'm going with that...

also with some nice plugs...u def. get a good throttle response...

HERE is the link to all outlets in Australia that stock Extreme.

Jono if you are near Hurstville, then the southbound Shell on King Georges Rd in Greenacre (otherwise known as Roberts Rd) is probably the closest other one.

im in strathfield so lidcombe one it is for me!

98 octane will be coming out in a couple of week where I live, I have been running on just premium at the moment because that is the best tha I can get so far.

I did a test like that a couple of years ago.

I put BP Ultimate up against Shell Optimax.

Because I don't travel the same distance every week I filled up 10 times with each fuel (Ultimate for the 1st ten, then Optimax for the next ten).

I averaged the ten for each fuel and found I got better mileage from BP.
I didn't notice any real difference in performance.
