Molybednum coated pistons

Is this worth doing?
It is $50 per piston, so $300 for all 6.
Anyone have any idea of weather I should do it or not?

Do it.
Just to say you did.

google says it reduces picton friction for economy and u might get less wear at high rpw... and it also has a higher melting point if you race a lot compared to normal metal

I'm not doing it just so I can tell people I've done it!
And, I just not sure if $300 is worth it.
The rods ae shotpeened so maybe I should do something to the pistons as well?
hmm... I'll take my mechanics suggestions...

I would go for it, sorta sounds the same as having ceramic coated pistons, sounds like a good idea.

it's the same coating that Civic Type R and Integra Type R have standard.
That's why they advertise "low friction pistons"

Which has always befuddled me cause at no time does any part of the piston touch the bore...
Admittedly it is good for keeping carbon build up off the piston & ensuring the oil splashed onto it gets back down into the sump quick smart.
Pretty high end stuff though. You'd be talking decimal point kw gains as opposed to ones or twos. More of a longevity assurance.

Does Thorpie work at the fudge factory as a packer does he?

If he does I can't believe I didn't know!

Don't the piston skirts touch the cylinder bore?

Nope, only the pistong rings touch the bore
Here's a good cross sectional piccy. There usually a few rings, a compression ring, an oil scraper ring etc. Different motors it varies.

u can also bead-blast pistons for less friction, and to make em look a bit like a washer has been inside the cylinder...
i think the aim is for less oil friction against the cylinder bore, or for the pistons to have a better relationship with the oil or something...
