hey guys
I've been into compression tests cos I have had my new car sussed. Just wondering if anyone has done one on their fto recently and what were the results??
I couldn't find the std compression figures in the FTO technical manual...hmmm sometimes they don't tell u

Mine was done the other day Chris.... by craig @ revzone. But (probably stupidly) I didnt get the actual results. He just told me that there was no real issues with the engine, said there was some variation but not enough to be causing major blowby.
he might know if you ask him when your next in?

variation is one issue...but if the variation can be small between cylinders but the actual numbers are low its also not good.
Cos I have the figures for an R33...the std PSI (once convered was around 170...mine tested in the 155-160 range...which was damn awsome cos its 10yo car.
Then you should do a leakdown test to check "other" issues...cbf talking about what it does here...use google...but its quite useful to tell where the leaking is comming form.
I could prob. work out what it should be based on the volume of the cylinder and the compression ratio (10:1) arhh...to hard! some1 tell me the answer

yeah - i trusted craig with this information.... He was doing it to see whether the engine was going to get another 100 000 KM + out of it. My concern at the time was he was going to replace my seals etc, and then have the same issues reoccuring due to the condition of the engine.

ok I have found the info form the FTO Workshop Manual (1)
Std pressure at test RPM = 1226kpa
Var. max 98Kpa
kpa to psi = 0.14504
i.e. 177psi (std when new)
max var. between cyl in psi = 14.2psi
Now I have to do the test myself and see...!!!
remember that some carbon bulidup etc will probaby give u a lower figure.
page 47 for anyone who is intrested in doing the test themselves...
