Has anyone fitted a CB radio into an FTO. I have been told if you use one whilst the engine is running it will make a mess of the running / engine management system. anyone any thoughts?

You can pick up a Uniden handheld UHF from Dick Smith for about $90. Go for the one that takes 3xAA batteries. It's range is good for about 1 km. Great for cruising and if you really get lost then there's always the mobile.

the best thing about them is you can tell the entire group what's going on at the same time rather than having to relay information to everyone.

in sydney CBD they are a must as the group never survives more than 2 traffic lights
