Hi all,
Has anyone else ever had this??
I got the car serviced locally but dont think i'll go back.
They tried to find out what it was during the service thought it was heat shield...
Basicually i hear a grindy sort of noice sounds exactly like my catalatic converter did when I had the VN when it was pretty much dead. So I thought it was the same they said no it isnt.
I can sort of feel it under my feet like its in the drivetrain?

I may get it if I am thinking of what you are thinking of
Does it happen especially when you are in a higher gear than you "should" be?
ie 20km/h in 3rd and accelerating?

from the front?...constant? or only at that RPM?

Could be in limp mode and stuck in 3rd during takeoff?
Manual or tiptronic?

Thanks for replies.
Its a manual and I only notice it between about 1 - 2K
Only really notice when I am in first and second does it in third as well.
Its annoying as when im dring down the street the speed I go at is usually in second right under 2grand which makes it sound shocking constantly grinding when I take off slowly.
As you said spetz if I am in a higher gear it seems to be more pronounced but still happens each gear.

maybe 1st.2nd gear syncros are gone in your gearbox.

might be the wheel bearing...if its comming from one side...or one of the way out!

I'd be interested to know what it is as well
Considering both mine and a friends car do it?
Can it possibly be pinging? I am not sure what that sounds like though as I never knowingly heard it

if its more of a groaning/grinding noise it might be a gearbox bearing... i used to have a similar noise before 2k rpm and accelerating until i got an lsd put in and they also replaced some bearings/bearing cones. and when i drove it away from the shop the noise wasnt there any more....

Well as soon as you hear a grinding noise in the tipbox get it serviced or replace the tranny fluid straight away.

check your pads! Your pads are always in contact with your rotors. If you get a choof, choof, choof, choof, noise with an auto your torque convertor could possibly be screwed.

I have taken the car to a mechanic, they couldn't find what is is.
Although they seemed fairly hopeless..
It just grinds in every gear when in low rev range under 1k.

I might head down to Adelaide and get someone who knows FTO's to look at it.
Any recommendations?

checked gearbox bearings as said above? gotta take it out of the car though

so, you know... it could be expensive
if it's bearings its just too much load on them or something at such a low rpm in a gear
sign of an aging car
