6A13 Engine Transplant into a......

Ok sounds daft but stick with me..

Last year i spent the better half of the year tarting my beat up 4th gen Prelude to look a million dollars (see pic below)

After doing a full service on the engine, the thing seized itself and basically has been sat in my shop for the last six months waiting for me to decide what engine to put in it.

I have toyed with the idea for a while now about sticking a v6 in it, but the honda v6's are a bit chunky, which leads me here.

Now i have the means and equipment to do a conversion like this, the point is, is it worth putting the MIVEC engine in, based on weight etc.

I would like to also know, the size and dimensions of the engine and driveshaft length etc.

Hey,

As much as I love Mitsubishi, I have to say that Honda's VTEC YO!!!!! system is much better. It simply has a lot more top end, and from driving some Honda's the gear ratio's seem to be perfectly matched to the engine, giving it good acceleration when really giving it to it.

A H22A VTEC YO!!!!! wouldn't be hard to find nor would it be a hard conversion, so I would really just stick with that. Alternatively maybe a K24A from a Honda Accord or K20A from a Integra Type R. Considering the weight of the Prelude I would really go for a K24A with manual gearbox from the latest accords. If you want to spend more money on mods then a K20A could be made into a screamer very easily.

Now, having said all that, the place that did my engine conversion, did do, and I saw this car myself, a 6A12TT powered Honda Integra DC2. Now, this would mean the gearbox mounts to the different side of the engine in Honda's rather than the latest Mitsubishi's (including FTO) so this conversion wouldn't really be liable. At the same time there is a MIVEC 6A12 used in older Galants which has the gearbox on the side that your Honda would, but they are hard to find. I have only ever seen one of these.

What exactly do you want from the car? Quick? NA, Turbo? Or just an engine to get it moving again?

I also forgot to mention that:
Honda engines spin the opposite direction which I personally think adds a lot of traction
And, Honda engines are alloy where as Mitsubishi engines are cast iron, so a 4 cyl Honda engine would weigh a LOT less than the 6A12.
I have converted my car from 4 cyl to V6 and I can tell you handling has never been the same.

Honestly, stick to a Honda engine
