Refering to the Vicroad website
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/VRNE/vrn ... open#ratio
Std GPX = 1170kg
Max Kw = 147kw (200bhp)
A high powered vehicle is any vehicle with a power to weight ratio over 125 kw per tonne
147/1170 x 1000 = 125.6kw per tonne i.e. just over by a bit..
The capacity to weight ratio is about 1.7 so thats cool but its the power to weight to be concerned with.
Therefore I think its right on the limit...There are a few P-Plate sin the club with GPX' should I would say its safe

when i was on my P's, i never had any trouble from the cops regarding the power to weight ratio with my GPX...

Wellz, am on my P's and driving around Vic no probs.
Been driving around cops, and been into Vic roads and stuff, and have not had any dramas.
Depending on how much mods you got and etc, Im pretty sure u can drive a FTO on your P's. There actually a list at Vic roads that lists out which cars u can and cannot drive.
But i think the main thing is when your on your P's - just dont drive like a d*ckhead and paint yourself a huge bulleye on your ass for the cops to canary you.
Question: I dont understand how P platers can drive a Rex and not get pulled over for it though...

The Vic roads published list is only a guide...
FYI
97-98 Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0L Manual Sedan (turbo)
155kw
1245kg
i.e. P/W ratio = 124 << 125 so its ok if its not a crazy STI I guess.
2004/5 Impreza Sedan WRX
169kw
1415kg i.e. 119..well under
2004/5 Impreza Sedan WRX STi
206kw
1495kg i.e 137 >> 125
Stock figures obviously...all do 0-100 under 6s. damn I wish the FTO had 4WD....as obviously the P/W ratio is just as good...

It's their torque that makes the huge difference. I think they pull something like 350nm and FTO only does 200nm. Maybe we could give em a shot if we took out our spare tyres and back seats and subwoofers......hehehe

Well most cop won't even know what a FTO is, let alone how much power & weight it got.
I think another reason why WRX are on the list is that there are too many REXHOON around think they are "tough" but can't drive for sh*t. If you put 95% of those so call "tough" guy on a FWD or RWD, they would be like a L plater, & have no idea about car control.

Not only that its when the FTO develops its max torque...at 6k only slightly before Max power at 7.5k. But less weight offsets that a bit but in this case not enough...

Just don't put a sticker on it that says GPX till you get off your Ps!
If you're worried about the police, if they want to get that fussy I'm sure they'll find something else on your car to be fussy about.
'Not till you're off your Ps' is still my excuse for not letting my baby brother drive my car though!
