Hi peeps
I juz got my fto last week and it has noisy lifters (i bought with that information already in hand) i was told that it isn't a big problem at all, juz dat i need to order the tappets in to be replaced. Well i juz wanna be sure. Is is a problem that must be dealt with straight away? will coz any major wear and tear if i'm driving it while waiting to get it replaced? whilst i'm quite sure that it isn't, i tot maybe someone with more experience could shed some light
also i was wondering if anyone knows where to get new/custom speedo's. My whole dashboard meters are pretty faded, and i wanna change the panel's lighting.
Thanks heaps

Hey - welcome to the club!
This was best posted in technical / performance, so I have moved it here.
Lifters - plenty on info on the site if you do a search, but it depends on a few things.
Do you have a GR or GPX? If is is a GPX, then the tappets may need adjusting only. Finding someone to do that, however, is not quite so easy in Adelaide.
Having said that though, the adjuster screws plastic "hat" may be broken, so they will need to be replaced. This is not such a small job! See link:

If your car is a GR, then they could be cleaned or replaced, as they are hydraulic lifters.

i got a 94 gpx...and it needs quite a bit of work. Any idea where i should take it to? i was reading some articles about graham west. Along marion rd. I need a proper inspection to find out abt everything that needs to be worked on... i've got a rough idea abt some stuff but yeah. i'm still learning
Rite now the ride isn't very smooth and neither is the gear change (its a tiptronic). Coz its gonna be a daily driver. I juz really wanna get everything at least up to that level where i can use it daily, and then take it into my own hands from there.
The previous owner obviously din give a rats ass abt looking after it
p.s Am i still able to keep on driving. Even though the tappets are broken? i don't want to make it worse than it already is. I really need all your help guys. i'm quite frustrated coz its my first car and it juz doesn't feel all that good a ride

It should be fine, but it just depends on what you plan on doing I suppose! They may not be broken though - it is not a big job to get the cam covers off and have a look. Probably just need adjusting to be honest. Mine only broke because of incompetent mechanics when I got the seals replaced just after I bought it.
As for the gearbox, would suggest changing the oil to something really good (Redline or something???). I don't have an auto, so I cannot advise really there, but plenty of info on the site. This can make a huge difference, and should smooth the changes.
Quite happy to meet and check out the tappets - for what it is worth! Pretty much every MIVEC engine is a little tappy / mechanical sounding. Just the way it is.
