There's this weird noise coming from the engine from both mine and friends cars (MIVEC)

at low speeds, say about 30 km/h if we are in 3rd and press a bit of throttle there is like a weird rattly sound from the engine (front of car at least) but goes away shortly after

Any ideas what it could be?

30kms in 3rd? Pinging??

If its a manual car, you could be labouring the engine at 30km/hr in 3rd gear. Have you tried knocking it down a gear and seeing what happens?

Well I don't really do that it's just that in the odd occassion I left it in gear it did that noise
It only does it when the car is in too high of a gear at too low of a speed. But I just never noticed other cars doing that, and my car at the beginning didn't really do it

Mind you both these cars are V6 lancer's and they pull in 3rd quite easily at low speeds

I think mine does the same thing, very low speeds in 3rd. that is. but i don't often use 3rd in situations like that, only if by mistake i think i'm in 1st..

Any ideas what it is?


Can other people give it a go and see if it makes that noise I was talking about?

Yeah mine does it too....It always has, and I always wondered what it was.
Think I read somewhere that it comes from the clutch area....

My only presumtion, is that it's in gear to low. that's about it. meh. i just don't stick it in 3rd when i go 30km/h

Mine did it as well. I've heard it before in other cars. So I tried to ignore it and not drive at low RPM
