This was on Tuesday this week so I guess there has been some technicalities which are holding things up.The DB has been successfully moved to the new host, Ben is uploading addtional files, and waiting for the DNS to be switched (which can take up to 24 hours)

The simple answer would have been to have backed up the entire forum THEN waited for the DNS to become live THEN uploaded the files (about a 30 minute operation). Back on-line with a max of 24 hours. An index page giving an update wouldn`t have gone amiss either - can be done with Dreamweaver in about 30 seconds flat.

again you have missed the point. You dont know the details of the situation with the ftooc so all you can do is make assumptions. I think you need to settle down. so why has it not been updated with some information? Like I said, 30 seconds with Dreamweaver would solve the problem and at least let people know they were experiencing problems - a little information goes a long way.
