The V8's are 4.7 litre and range from 230-260 BHP with 295-330 lbft of torque which would explain why it tanned you from the lights!

It'd be the new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, they're powered by a 5.7L V8 HEMI engine, a 4.7L V8 petrol engine, or a 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel engine + 4WD of course...
The 5.7L HEMI puts out 240Kw... 4.7L V8 spits 170Kw & the 3L V6 Turbo Diesel kicks it ay 160Kw... So you got done by either the HEMI or the 4.7L V8...And as I said, take into consideration the 4WD factor...
So... Don't feel too bad...

Well for any consolation, those Jeep Cherokee are really fast on straight & nothing more, my mate took one to the snow, & it got stuck, while every other brand & model of 4WD drive pass it. Even a X-trail can manage the same hill

the jeep have a great record for off road work.... We have had a few.
The main problems with them, is they are damn thirsty, they float on the road a little and never do a sharp u turn in them! they feel like they are going to flip.
A recent review of the new one on fifth gear said they are still great off road but dont have the polish of the x5 etc in either interior styling or behaviour.

What speed did you race until?
If you put them in the LOW gears they rocket of the line , but you can only do about 65KM tops. If it was the Hemi version, well you didn't have a chance. (especially if they had it in the low gears)

Well i disagree with you mil, a Hemi 5.7 will rape a FTO for sure on straight. Like Joel said, if the guy had it in low range gear, man the power it pull is unbelieveable, & 1750kg is consider light weight for a 4WD, look at the VW Touareg, its bloody 2400kg.

Some HSV are heavier then 1750kg
I do have a mate reckon his V6 Touareg can beat a FTO GPX

177kw/302NM & bloody 2400kg........stock does 0-100 9.9sec

yea i have GPX
but its tip so cant launch properly
i could hear him launch off the lights
so i have 4spd tip
1st gear he was pulling away from me
2nd gear near 6k i was catching up from behind
and after i redline 2nd and continued in 3rd i didnt want to go any
faster
was around 130-40km/h i was catching up since 2nd gear though

It would be an interesting race with one of those V10 diesel Touaregs - sure it's a diesel but it has enough torque to change the earth's rotation so would be pretty good away from the lights. Once you were moving at reasonable speed it might be a different story...
And don't try to race Cayenne turbos
