I bet this guy was the schoolyard bully at school... he needs to grow up... problem is, most of the guys that run the forum are mates with him, so close to ditching them

I'll start, Why'd they make it FWD and so damn heavy! Oh yeah, the total lack of headroom isin't fun either.

Beyond that, one of the visually nicest cars mitsu ever made.
Schumiefan wrote:meh suits my needs, not really built to drag hence the weight, but itll stick to the road quite comfortably and itll lose most cars round corners. and i do a lot of open road driving and its one of the most comfortable cars for it. the seats hug you when you corner

headroom is only sh*t in the back, im 6'2 and fit perfectly in the front... and the legroom in the front is great, so long as you dont plan on using it as a 4 seater.

everybody moans about the FWD, makes bugger all difference except a bit of torque stear... hold the wheel tighter!

good engine, good chassis, handling is superb and its very pleasing to the eye... and in a world where evos and galants are around every corner its nice to drive something a bit different.

like i said, it suits me fine. i love it

but yeah... i dont know what im talking about and i drive a sh*t car boo hoo right?

each to their own i guess

Well, I wouldn't have thought that <1200kg's is particularly heavy, that is just me.

Also, apart from the outside looking great, the interior has not dated at all IMO. It still feels like a new car. Try getting into a 94 integra, WRX, Sylvia, or anything else of that ilk and see how you like them.

I have a large picture of my car (with AJ's and Kavemans) at work (sad I know) and the number of people who have walked past, stopped and quizzed me on what it was, where did I get it, and HOW DID YOU AFFORD TO BUY THAT!!! Nice.

And as I have said before, what is the fascination with drag racing? Each to their own I suppose.

Guys like that really p!ss me off also. I don't get why they feel the need to criticise others cars. Every car is different, and if a car is someone's "pride and joy" just respect it for what it is.

They are generally not worth arguing with though. Perhaps you should just post a link to Richard's post about his exploits, and see what they think to that.

Its a bit different in NZ - because turbo cars are cheap and plentiful over here, some people will never understand why you might not want an Evo or a WRX or some other common as much turbo car. IMO they're just closing their eyes to the qualities and benefits of other cars such as FTOs.

The other thing that I find is that if you have to own an N/A car, a Honda is pretty much the only acceptable one.

1200kg's is exceptionally light for a road worthy car. The only cars out there that will weigh less are those that are designed as a sports car first and a road car second.

There are so few cars out there whose interiors match up to ours, and I think it's the wicked center console part that does the trick. My older brother owns an MY98 WRX and the interiors in those cars are so bland it's not funny. Even the all mighty Godzilla (R32 GTR) has a bland interior.
HOW DID YOU AFFORD TO BUY THAT!!
Hahaha, I LOVE it when people say this!!
The looks that older guys give you and the car when you're sitting at the lights is soooo cool. Makes it all worth it.

Unfortunately it's still the same over here in Aus.....even more so with the V8 crowd we have here.

Some people thought I was mad for buying an FTO, why didnt I get a
.... ..... Honda/ BMW etc.....but every day I drive to work I see them everywhere - they are so common, - all great cars - but all very very common

I am lucky if I see 1 FTO per week driving around.... That is one of the main reasons I originally bought an FTO - it's different, its look hasnt "aged". I still love it when I get the "What is that???"
(I too have a huge poster of mine at my desk at work  )

every time i go back to chch (second biggest city in nz) i see maybe 5-7 FTO's, this may seem a lot but why? BECAUSE THEY STICK OUT they dont blend into all the gsr's, evoos, wrx's etc that people dont even notice anymore, and yor exactly right with the interior.

I love you guys

:D I hear a very similar thing here in Townsville - Here WRX's, Commodores & Falcons are the norm & I am constantly questioned as to why I 'wasted' my money on an FTO... For starters, I'm not into power figures, don't get me wrong, I like a car with a bit of boot to it but I'm not chasing big Kw or low 1/4 mile passes... I am a cosmetics & car audio fan. Hence I chose the FTO for it's aesthetic appeal, nice shape, great interior & as a lot of other members in here have mentioned, you don't see them every two minutes!
Not that the FTO's performance is anything to dismiss... Superb handling with more than enough poke to keep most other cars worried - I will be doing the general engine enhancements, intake, exhaust etc etc but the majority of my attention will be focused on creating something visually appealing... So all those other car owners - You may have the ability to get to where you're going faster, but I'll do it in more comfort & with a s#!tload more style

it all adds up to ego.

You see they all want wrx's, evos, skylines and what not. then they actually get one, and no one actually gives a sh*t. its fast... odds are yours is not going to be fast, coz many skyline and so on owners have modded the crap out of it. so your at the ass end of the fast car group anyway. there goes your bragging rights. you have no choice but to wonder off to the fwd track cars and wank on about straight line speed. lol its shocking...

the two Skyline owners i know LOVE my FTO, why? coz it is not a direct competitor, love it for what it is. you cant compare a harly with a race bike can you?

Of course it makes it so much worse for the ego head when all eyes are on the SLOWER fwd car, because it hasnt aged and looks like a much more expensive exotic. worse still, if you ever sat in one your FAST car seems like an oldsmobile when your faced with bland as bat sh*t interior, but felt like you were in a race car in the slower FWD car.

Then there is the salt in the wounds when you figured to impress with your skyline, only to crash into reality and realise every second person you tell has the same damn car. matter of fact, "the only way any evo, wrx or skyline drivers get any attention is to go all out over board with mods", direct quote from one of the mates with a skyline.

At the end of the day, we are happy with our cars, and they are not. hence why they waste time coming here as if to persuade us the car we have is crap and... hell id better get rid of it and get a wrx.....

moron, end of story.

yeah will i just bought my car not long ago and so far in my town i havnt copped anyone saying my car is sh*t the only thing i have heard from 2 people that is my car looks like a chiks car!!!

yeah im only 17 so right now i aint even looking for performance i just want a car that every chik looks at and goes WOW nice car!!!

then im driving in style and picking up chiks at the same time!!!

there is no skyline or REX that can beat the FTO when it cums to looks...i have got my car nearly to where i want it already and only had it for 4 weeksd now i think...all i have left is custom interior and carbon bonnet!!!

but yes the FTO is a style car not a performance..people just need to wake up and relize we aint all in the car thing for perfornce...some like style and my car is all that and even more this week when i install my SICK AS sound system...my car will be heard from far from my exhaust and music...though's guys who give sh*t to FTO owners just need to get in one and drive it because it is perfect...i have drove my friends holdens and 180sx and damn i love my FTO..:P

I had a good one when driving home from the city last night. Drove off from a set of lights and a pedestrian yells out F&^K you FTO, my car was very upset and I think this moron hurt her feelings.

Who cares what other people think about your car. As long as you like it, thats all that matters. :)

The FTO gets the same kind of attention in the UK as well. Even magazine reviews of it appear to be slanted in such a way to try and cast doubt on the car.

One of the more popular magazines in the UK used to say "Looks like it should chase Porsches, in reality it keeps up with Mondeos". None of the standard Mondeos available at the time had the pace of a manual V6 FTO...

Another recent article in another magazine describes the fto as "a mini GT designed for comfortable motorway and a-road driving. The 200bhp MIVEC-equipped cars were reasonably quick.". Yet the same magazine described the Nissan 200sx as "a devastating road rocket with 198bhp (in S14 form) giving it a sprint time to 60mph from a standing of just 7.5secs"

I think the FTO 'suffers' from looking like a much faster car than its direct competitors - Toyota Celica, Honda Integra, etc. However, this 'suffering' is all worth it... when you see people in porsches, etc. alongside you at traffic lights looking across; when people shout "nice car!" as you drive by; when people take pics of the car (usually on their mobile phones); when people come over to ask all sorts about the car; and finally, everytime you walk away from your car, you have to turn around to have just one more look at it. 8)

Haha, Gav, I couldn't have said it better myself.

I've even had the Porsche thing happen too!

Hey talking about the dating of the interior of the FTO has anyone seen the new Commodore interior with the two dials placed on the dash very similar to the FTOs... saw it on the ad the other night and said... "hey they stole that look from the FTO"

Well, to add my views on it.

When i first got the FTO, i loved it, loved the attention, maybe i was just young back then

But now i still get looks but i don't really notice them now. Sure there will be people that hate the FTO, how ever like some of the people at my work they say how slow it is yet they have never been in one and drive crap cars them selves. What i say is, come for a drive with me and i will show u that it isn't slow.

Other drivers that do own fast cars and say FTO's are slow, it annoys me that they are closed minded, just becuase they think they have a bigger dick. To me these people are not true motor enthusiasts. As I respect all cars (except mega ricers )

I would like to add that i did go through a stage where I to wanted a faster car, and that lasted about 4 months or so.

All i have to say is if you have douts about having such a slow car, go to a track day where you are racing cars in your class such as DC2R's etc. and you will fall in love once again, you will notice with mods and driving skills you should do rather well!

It's cool how differant people get different things out of the fto.

For me it's about driving it.
The way it feels 'sporty' even when your not pushing it.
Grinding your way through corners under acceleration, scraping every ounce of down force the wing will give you.
And there is just something about FWD handling I've always loved.

The fact that they look sh!t hot....Well thats just one hell of a bonus.
