Hey guys, a while ago I said I would check out a backyard upholster. I did this on Monday. A guy who has been doing upholstering for 50years in richmond. Works a lot on porshce, jag, bmw etc...

ANyway I thought he might be a bit cheaper as he works from home... anyway i was wrong :) i was quoted around $3000 and up for my car (depending on which hide) i chose..... I had no idea that the leather arrives at his place a the silhouette of a cow! legs n all...

nyway for those interested in the side door trims... his advice was .. don't touch them.. he said you can do them buuuuut they are pressed by machine and it is difficult to get the same look.

He also said to be wary of some of the ebay style 'leather kits' said the workmanship can often be very good but the leather is poor causing stretching or excessive tightening...

He was a lovely guy and very good reference point.

Well those points sound pretty resonable, but i would of ask, so how does all those people in autosalon did their doors then, most of them look fine to me. I know Blackman in Moorabbin can do it, but charge an arms & legs for it.

Maybe he haven't got the machine to do it? Or he CBF as its just a small job, so just tell you don't do it??

no $3000 + for the both front seats and rear...

Not sure Kev - he said he could, just wouldnt advise it as he said its very difficult to get that factory finish. He was an older gentlemen and just seemed very honest so was possibly just saying, "ill do it, but cant guarantee - so might be best to leave it"
