Petrol = Ethanol

Wah...

Just watched a today tonight segement about ethanol. Sounds interesting.

Did anyone else watch it?

Apparently there r cars in US/China/etc running their cars on 85% ethanol, and 15% on actual petrol 8O Somewhat amazing and alarming at the same time.

Considering that Johnny Howard just announced that he is looking into making petrol companies increasing the use of ethanol, mixed into petrol due to increase pressure for lower fuel prices - where does this leave us. :?

Relating this to our beloved FTO's, our cars are alrdy somewhat retarded because of the low octane levels found in petrol Australia sells (ie - unleaded).

Imagine having a greater portion of ethanol in our cars  What would happen to our performance?

I know that an increase use of ethanol wouldnt just be mixed to petrol overnight, and we'll still have our, regulars/premiums/optimax etc, but it's sumthing to think about due to increase pressures of fuel prices and that the increase use/mix of ethanol in petrol may happen in the near future.

Anywayz, just wanted to express my concerns.

your thoughts?

I saw it. They mentioned that the octane rating could be over 100 8O

The car did have a couple of hundred dollars worth of mods though, including a "black box" connected between the spark plugs and the engine management system.

I was watching tv last night, a show called "Beyond tomorrow"

They were talking about the cars that works with compressed air. No petrol at all! So, no heat, no petrol bill, no heavy engine, Just free air. You can even fill up your tank at come with a compressor!

Have to admit, I was amazed. They will start using this technology next year in Vic Market. One of the leading inventor is actually Australian.

So, here I am thinking, before we finalise the discussion about using ethanol in our fuel, I reckon air or hidrojen or some other source fueled cars will take off.

Because, the athmosfer seems to had enough polution. have a look at the Hurricane frequency!

Wahaha.

Yesh yesh, I watched Beyond Tomoz as well. I was also 8O by the air technology in cars.

I wonder if one day I had the chance to push the acceleration on one of those, whether it will create a tornado out from the exhaust  And maybe, it can make a "woooooossssh" sound like a BOV. :)
