TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?

hi guys, i noe we have plenty of cluey ppl here so help me out with this one because it doesnt add up!

sorry, cant get the link working, search www.tradingpost.com.au for a honda s2000 used in usw and u'll get just one thats $27k
(for a 2002 model its onli done 16'000km !)

obviously seeing a car worth a good $40k sold for $27k i jumped at it.

1st weird thing, i couldnt call the #, it didnt exist, the contact number wasnt a typo, because its the same both on tradingpost and carsale.com, the price was correct too.

2nd weird thing, i emailed the person and the replied looked like a pre-typed, copy-n-paste job,

and 3rd weird thing, the content of the 2 lengthy emails i got as a reply. brief quotes below:

" I believe you should know that for now i'm in Rome, Italy with the car"

"The reason why I want to sell this car is that I realised that the import and register taxes are very high here in Italy so i prefer to sell it and buy another car. It is AUS street legal, so i can't find a buyer hare in Italy ,or in Europe because they don't like the car prepared this way" ~but he already took it with him over there?!
you will make the $4000 transfer to my location but not to my name (you will use your best friends name for example as receiver's name) so you can be sure that I will not pick up the money until you get the car; so you make a deposit at Western Union and you will give me the transfer's details (SENDER'S NAME AND MTCN) so I can check that the deposit was made."

"I think it is better to not inform Western Union that you will change the receivers name in a few days because it is possible they ask you to pay the fees twice (fees that are quite big for such an amount),also when you go to a Western Union office to make the transfer, please don't tell there the reason you send the money because here in this country I must pay some additional taxes when I receive the funds.

Please say you send the money to your friends or to your partner.
Is like your friend/partner is in Italy and you want to send him this amount of money!
I will be happy if you can trust me and make the transfer directly to my name but because it is our first deal I've proposed you this very safe and efficient method so you can only deposit the money first and after you get the car I'll be allowed to cash it."

can something like this really work?

or do u smell something fishy too? :? (no evil thoughts please! LOL  )

if anyone wants the fully email he sent me just let me noe and i'll forward it on to u. sounds dodgey....
abbie

any legal advise would be great!

Alarms going off everywhere things like this are so high risk.

What he probably plans to do is get 5-10 people to make this $4000 deposit then just take the money.

Quick easy $40,000.

Because the phone number is wrong and I bet he has a free email account say hotmail or something similar then he is basically un tracable.

Things that are to good to be true are usually not true and become the worst choice you ever make.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers

Paul

Contact carsales and the trading post and let them know about it. They will probably have the credit card details that they used to place the ads which they can forward to the Federal Police. Believe it or not, the Feds do actually follow this stuff up.

yeah this is total bs
i have seen this done for supras and a few mr2's, where people claimed to be over seas ad needed the money before they sent the car over etc etc

its total bs and a common scam

I believe Adriano also brought up the same sort of occurance a couple of months back. It's bullshit, stay well clear and email the companies hosting the ad's if possible.
