how much have you carried in / on your car?

Back in the UK my first car was an Anglia van, I bought a wooden shed off a mate. It probably weighed 250 / 300 kg and I put it on my roofrack. needless to say the roofrack collapsed and the roof never looked the same again. but I got it home. took 3 of us to lift it on / off.
And a couple of years ago here in Melbourne I had a Camira wagon, I was given some wooden planking. put it on the roofrack, as I was going down Fertree Gully Road at Wheelers hill. I got to the bottom, I could see something bouncing above the drivers window. when I looked up the rear rope had come loose and the 5 meter long planks were across (90 degrees) to the car. hanging across the outside lane. thank god the cops were not there!
Tarkus (still an old fart)
