what to look for when buying a FTO

hi all,
im currently looking for a FTO GPX for my GF.
just wondering if there is anything in particular i should look for that could cause problems.
she has to have an auto car, i am going to inspect one this weekend.
it only has 80 thousand kms on it.
also how easy is it to get parts for one of these?? iv heard parts are extremely rare.

hey mate, welcome to the forums.
best bet is to search the topic you want covered as you will find this has been discussed lots of times, and you will get the best information.
however,
I would take note of the kms each car you look at has done, but remember they are private imports, and there is a good chance the tacho has been played with. The key indicator is the condition of the engine.
(1) check for oil leaks, lots of fto's develop leaks in the cam seals, sump etc. Make sure it has had regular oil changes / services and check to see the quality of oil they have used.
(2) if it has legitamately done 80, and before 100, you will need a major service (spark plugs, cam belt, ac belt etc) - maybe ask to see if any of this has been done. This can cost big dollars.
(3) check wear and tear, shocks etc, this might give you a better guide to the actual kms of the car.
(4) if its tiptronic, have the gearbox checked. - actually get the whole car checked before buying either by racv or a mechanic you trust.
people might be able to add to this list, look for accident damage obviously as well.
Parts dont seem to be a problem unless your after unique bits that have been discontinued (mainly aftermarket bodykits, or performance parts). Everything else seems readily available - the key is to find a mechanic who a) knows fto's (b) isnt going to rip you off.

located on the central coast will be travelling down sydney to inspect the FTO probably next monday

I've actually got a big list (on paper though) on this subject but a couple of tell tale signs to look for.
The rubber door seals around the doors, their condition gives away the cars true age. Perhaps even more so, the carpets, check under the mats. Even with mats, carpet gets rub marks. The older the car, the more worn the carpet.
Check for overspray anywhere on the car. Check the chassis for any damage to indicate any crashes.
