[Fixed - Thanks For All Your Help Guys] Broken Door Locks.

Hi All, I've done something silly again...
Short Version: I am unable to lock the door from the outside because as soon as I close the door, the part which closes the door and holds it closed causes the door to unlock. Its fine if the door's already closed and I lock it... But since I can't unlock it again from the outside it's BAD! It happened essentially because... You know the part on the door that hooks onto the rectangular thing on the body so the door closes? Well the hook INSIDE the door I pressed hard on it and it went down... and stayed there... can anyone help me PLEASE!??!?! Anyone come across this before? I know if I can just rotate that part (inside the door) back to the original position it'll be perfect again, but do I need to go get a mechanic to rip my door apart to do this?

Long version: Was sound deadening and all was finished for driver's door when I decided the central locking motor wasn't tight enough, so pressed hard on the lock rotors then CLICK. I thought I'd snapped something but no, all was fine, door closed fine only whenever I closed the door while it was locked, the door would lock itself and not it won't respond to remote central locking (the electronic motor thingies still work). So then I goto the other side to check whats different and I notice that hook inside the door which latches onto the car body is in a different position, as if it'd been rotated down 90 degrees and won't rotate back up 'in reverse'. As I was l doing this I pressed on the one on the passenger side to check the shape to test my theory and CLICK it happens to the passenger side as well! So now I got 2 doors that won't lock remotely and it means I can't take it anywhere! Someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!

that was confusing

so your lock is broken? and it has nothing to do with the central locking? or does it?

my remote alarm central locking always stuffs up, sometimes when i arm the car, the alarm goes on, but the drivers side of the car is still unlocked and the passenger side is locked.....

i solve the problem by locking my door with the key, and then arm the car... it works

if urs has nothing to do with that, then take it to a mechanic or locksmith

Hehehe, yeah I thought it'd be confusing since I typed that when I was in a 'omg omg omg' mood.
Basically, that part IN the door which latches onto the metal part which protrudes out on the car body... That part, well lets say that 'latch' in the door has a 'normal' position. But I've somehow rotated it downwards 90 degrees that's my problem. I'm just glad my doors still close!!!
Anyway, yeah, will be taking it to a mechanic, hopefully
a) doesn't have to rip apart all the sound deadening which took all day to fix
b) I don't have to buy a new lock for both doors =/

THanks for the help guys.

Sounds simple.
Stick screwdriver in behind the latch and and pull the handle up and push the latch thingy around to open it again.
Well at least thats what i think you need to do, if thats whats wrong....

Hehe, Elmo, I wish I'd read your instructions more carefully (i missed the pull the handle part) but yeah it did look simple, just couldn't do it!
But I'm happy to report it's FIXED
For whatever reason, the part as shown by the attached image:
Image
fixed itself...
I realised it was back to its normal position as I was taking the photos and fiddling with it... So quickly I excitedly put everything else together and voila my thing's all working again.
So bad news is, because of all this, I didn't get to test out if the sound deadening improved anything, except sounding *slightly* more solid for the door I've finished. But hey, that's a job for next weekend when the passenger side door is done... Thank goodness FTO's only have 2 doors!!!
Good news is, I now know how to install central locking motors by myself that's to my frantic experimentation... Only reason I did it all myself is b/c my mechanic wasn't home to answer my calls so sweeeet. :P

Soo thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated, and I've learned yet more bout the FTO.

P.S. anyone who wants to sound deaden an FTO themselves, it takes AGES!!! 1 door per day... Took me an entire day for parcel shelf as well, mainly b/c the rear window is sooooo low at some points... But it makes a BIG difference to anyone who doesn't have a sub in terms of BASS... And mine was a DIY job, imagine pro jobs! Now that I have a sub, I really need to get to those rear quarter panels which rattle like heck! esp with the parcel shelf now sound deadened, it all travels to those rear panels ( betcha the doors will be next but yay doors are deadened already, or wil be).

P.P.S the service holes are a BITCH in the FTO to fill up... And its even worse with alarm systems/central locking motors... Any melb drivers ever need to do it, feel free to gimme a buzz.

don't tell me you're thinking of putting sound deadening on your car too Danny... what, you're tired of the sound from the turbo/wastegate already??

not a chance i would add weight to it mate

i am looking at ways to loose weight from the car

already removed some bits and pieces here and there.

and there is more planned.

will get it down around 1100 Kgs eventually

i love the sound now.

Haha, I dunno how much the car weighs but I'm not too concerned as I don't tend to drive it hard much...
I mean, it came with 17" chromes which already weighed it down, add the sub, multiple amps bigger battery etc etc there was no way I could ever IMPROVE the speed.
Different priorities I guess =P I want comfort (hnmM, maybe shoulda thought twice bout the FTO). If I could only get rid of all that road noise I woulda love the car ever so much more!!!

do you find the road noise a lot less with the sound deadening in the doors and /or floor pan?
