My auto died on me a little while after I got my car.

All I can say is......very very pricey to fix those things. 8O

As in I had my box fully rebuilt by a specialist for 3k.

My oil pump had cracked and thus not enough oil was getting into the gearbox....this in turn caused lots and lots of grinding. :(

I would imagine 2-3 K would be a fairly standard figure for a rebuilt auto transmission. Even in a standard non performance car they are costly, and the FTO auto trans is probably a little more high tech then your standard car.

 and would it cost round bout the same amount to get a manual conversion? damn id just go manual conversion then.

Manual conversion is at least 2k in labour......or so my car's previous owner was priced.

Keep in mind that labour for gearboxes is always super high as the amount of work to take out then disect and diagnose a problem with an auto trans is a lot.

this is wierd right, this morning i get the tow guy out to my place, and yea it drives all fine, reverve working, 1st to 2nd not reving crazily. all sweet. anyway i sent the car to lee anyway , called up and had a chat with him. hes gonna look at it though it doesnt look like the auto is stuffed up but i think there is some major electrical fault or somethin. he said he'll probably flush it out as well and see if the gear selector is messed up or not. keepin my fingers crossed my transmission is not stuffed up

im back for more advice. i got the car back after the transmission service . since then when i put the car in drive or reverse it shudders or kinda jumps as well as the gears sometime have difficulty changing. i tought the work hadnt been done properly so the past 2 weeks i wasnt driving it . took it to lee this sat to get it sorted but he goes that would happen and the only way the gears are going to become smooth and the shuddering stop is if i drive it . well now i am. but is that what usually happens when u get your transmission serviced ????

Yep, I just had my transmission service at Lee as well, actually same times as yours Shue, it was a bit rough when I first got it back, but its good now. I think what he means is you have to let the oil properly lubricate the whole gear box, as he flush it so many times.

Lee told me your transmission been flush like 4 times & it’s still pretty dirty, while it only took twice for mine to become clean.

How long since you had your transmission done before you took it to Lee? It is recommended that you do a transmission service every 20k km.

the cars done about 120000 ks on it at the moment. since i got it say bout 15000 and thats being very generous. its been serviced twice since i got it. dunno what the guy before me had done . he hadnt done the 100 k service either which i'll be doing after my transmission is running smoothly. so yea this is the first time i got the transmission serviced.
