Wheels touching arches

Hey Guys and Girls!

My FTO is extra low, and it has aftermarket bigger wheels..

I'm used to it making a little bit of noise like it might be touching the arches when I'm manoeuvring around a tight area.. but this weekend it's started making a much LOUDER noise whenever I turn the wheel more than just a little bit.

QUESTIONS:
What are some possible consequences for having wheels that touch the arches??

The wheel arches are just plastic right?

Are they a vital part of my car?

I don't think they are doing any damage to my tyres, but my car is so low, there is no way I could get my head under it to have a good look.

Also, My car is still going into limp mode occasionally.. Is there anything I should look out for between now and when I come up with the money to have it fixed? Is having a faulty sensor dangerous in any way?

Also, I recently had a new Panasonic head unit installed and I've noticed it gets really hot after a while, is that something I should have looked into as well?

Thanks!!

-Heather

the plastic wears out as soon as you put on aftermarket wheels that don't quite match FTO specifications... its just a fact of life.. the damaged plastic will create more drag but you won't really notice anything...

all stereo's get hot...

You'll get holes in the plastic guards and then they'll flap around, it's annoying as anything in my opinion.
Worse still, you may get rubbing in the wheel arch itself. According to my tyre mob, it won't effect the tyre but it sounds terrible. I got them to do some backyard panel beating on the arches and now I almost never rub.

My panasonic head deck also gets quite hot during use.

Quite normal.
