Hey all today i decided to give me tranny sensor terminals a bit of a clean. I took batt off etc to get to sensors. Well all goes well i put everything back together go to start the car, the car cracks once and now there is no power anywhere???? No interior lights clock nothing. Its not low battery related as i know batt is still full.
And for some stupid reason now i cant get my key to the off position its once postion forward of that accessories i think! I think its related to me manually pushing and pulling the selector on top of the gear box???
so whats going on why dont i have power??
thanks

Lol.....good old key stuck problem.
This is a tiptronic car correct??
The power problem will be fuse related most likely as that explains the "crack" you heard when you tried to start the car.
Have a look around on the net for the "key stuck in ignition" problem.

i fixed the problem and got the key out. But i think i stuffed the gear selector up!
When i put the car in drive the lights on the dash sometimes show N and D at the same time and when i put it in tip mode gears still auto automatically.
I was fiddling around with the gear selector type thing on top of the gearbox and undid a few bolts that hold the wire going to that thing as well. So could that be the cause?

Yes the cable is probably out of sync. Look for the marks where it was bolted previously (it will be cleaner then the rest of the area) and bolt it back in the same place.

yeah i think it is out of sync. I was going through the gears today when in park i got back a knotch and its 3/4 the way to Reverse so its not in sync. But i didnt touch the bolt going directly to the selector on the gearbox only the bracket which has a bolt connected to the selector cable near the sensor on the left side of the tranny. I'll take a photo and show you guys.

ok took some photos with my phone heres what that selector thing is at when in park. Click on image for larger version.
this photo is the selector at park
that gold bracket is what i loosened to get to the sensor, i think this is the culprit.
so im guessing i'll have to adjust that bolt in the top picture. But can somebody tell me where that lever is meant to be while in park??
thanks

The gold bracket isn't adjustable so it shouldnt have any affect on the positioning of the cable selector.
You may have stretched the cable though?
Do you have a worksop manual?

because when i took off the gold bracket there seemed to be something resting in behind that and the bracket it connects onto. I think its some sort of spacer it poped out when i loosened the bracket so i put that spacer back in but i dont think i have it right. So if somebody tells me where that selector is mean to rest while in park/car off i should have the problem solved

i really just need a reference to where the lever on the tranny is meant to be. Also the bracket which i showed i dont think i put the spacer etc back in properly. Anyone have ideas? Or can take a picture?

Hope this helps:
Air filter heat shield is in the way a bit and the engine is too hot to go poking around in there too much
