PLEASE HELP!!! REV SURGING AND SPEEDO PROBLEM!

Hi Guys

Please help! My poor FTO is freaking out! I am having a problem with my revs surging. When I am stationery at the lights or at a stop sign my car is still revving by itself….it will rev from 1000-1700 rpm by itself and then back again constantly. Even if I put the car in neutral, it still revs as if I am pressing on the accelerator. Its quite bizarre and hard to understand. I have consulted a couple of mechanics who think I need a new Idle control sensor....another one who works on imported vehicles said that I may need a new air flow converter and that it wasnt the idle control .....why he said this I am totally unsure. I would have thought it was the ICS also....it makes perfect sense but before I go and fork out for a new one I was just wondering if any of you guys had ever had the same thing happen and if so, what fixed it. This has been occuring for about 2 weeks now

Also this morning, my speedo wasn’t working wither. The speedo just sits on 0 and kms do not even clock up….where the clock had 90,465kms it now just has 6 dashes ie - - - - - - ….has anyone ever had this happen.....if so how can I fix this....has it accidently disconnected itself....how do I re connnect --- ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED GUYS. THANKYOU SOOOOO MUCH :D

Cheers

Conrad,
Your surging problem seems to me coming from Idle Controller as well.
However, before you pay that money to get a new one, you might try to reset your ECU (disconect your battery for about an hour), and see how this works out.
Also, cables to ECU might be playing up as well. You might like to test somehow.

Regarding to your spedo, 8O
I never heard this before. Perhaps, something might be disconnected from gearbox, or dash unit has had enough......

Another thing i can suggest would be, if the ECU reset doesn't work, then go to www.ftowa.com and in the worshop section there are instructions on getting ECU error codes.

that code should tell you what is going wrong.
