Mini Reservoir

hey,

i was wondering what the little reservoir is behind the engine, near the fire wall. its right of the brake reservoir.

anyone know?

Sounds like you're referring to the clutch cyclinder? Assuming your car is manual.

yeah, mines a manual,

the actuall fluid seems a bit lower than normal, what do i top it up with?

Yeah, it's the clutch reservoir. I think you use hydraulic oil. This stuff strips paint if you get it on the car so it's not a good thing to have leaking :)
If it's down, check for a leak. First port of call is to the right of the engine, towards the front of the car the clutch comes forward and then into a ball joint with a rubber boot that extends towards the engine. Check under this small rubber boot, if there's a lot of oil, there may be a leak. Another obvious indicator is the clutch not engaging fully when changing gears.

is hyrdraulic oil easy to get? any particular brands?

is it a 1 2 3 step top up? or do i have to do anything weird?

You should be able to buy specific clutch fluid from any decent service station or car parts place. And unless you have emptied the cylinder, you should be able to just top it up (at least that's what I did).

If you empty it, you have to bleed the air out of the clutch which is a pain in the butt.
