Help! Genuine FTO Mechanic wanted in Melbourne !

by daisy

I am a new FTO owner, and recently took it to be serviced and had new cam belt, tappets, oil leak fixed, wheel bearings replaced and other minor problems fixed...the charge came to $3,500 !!!! I think I have been totally ripped off and the mechanic as I found out wasn't a Mitsubishi specialist ! Charged $66 per hour for labour ! Being a chic, would love some advice or recommendation on a good FTO specialist mechanic in the Melbourne area...im in Oakleigh. Since then, the car isn't running as well after all that money spent !
Thanks,
Daisy

ouch, well we would need hte full list but heres how it goes
you jsut paid what i paid to have a new engine and have it put in my car!
baiscly the timing belt would of costa nice 1k, wheel bearings maybe a hours labour each and 90$ a bearing
the oil leak if its aroudn the cam seals (at the top of the motor near the roudn things) includign tappet adjsutment should not of cost more then 600$ TOPS
if theres more to it then okay
if theres less
give fair trade commision and choice mag (FTOOOO can atribute to the power of this) a call and fuckem up/get a full refund

OMG u serious???? U got a list of the things he done? If you do, take it to SL Motorsports & ask them how much those service & parts really going to cost you.
Lots of FTO owners had work done at SL Motorsports already.

$66 p/hr is not that much... most places charge around 60-70...
its more the fact of how many hours they said they did...
I have had similar problems with mechanics. my 100k service cost me 2400, ive been told by a few other mechanics that they job should have cost about 1600 for what was done...
its a tough call, as they guy that did the job, i think has a pretty good clue of whats going on, but its always hard to know if you have been ripped off or not. Best advice. Get a written quote on the job before they commence (not always possible, but try to pin them down).

even though they charge 66 an hour, they might spend many countless hours working out how to do certin things, cause they havent workedo n a fto before.
hence why you were ripped off.

which workshop charged you $3.5K???
you could buy a second hand motor and have it fitted for that price already...

As Paladin just pointed out
I know what it feels like to spend large amounts of money on fixing the car......my tranny rebuild cost that much.

I don't have an *FTO mechanic* but he does all my work, he picks up everything, and he'll let me know what needs done, and he's pretty spot on. He's in yarraville but im not going to recommend him just 'cos he's done work on my car.. But he is good, very knowledgeable and upfront..
Not the cheapest but does a good job..

I'll lay $100 at 10 to1 that you went to Chadstone Mitsubishi, it's a pity you didn't go next door to Chapmans (looks like a Merc dealer) but Ian races a Skyline GTR and is very good with FTO's. I've had work done there and been happy with them but he doesn't have the supply of spare parts that Lee at SL has. They do supply a free courtesy car though which SL don't. Try them for repairs that require readily available parts.,especially if you need a car to get around in while your pride and joy is not so proud and not so happy.

Been to Chapmans before too, & yeah i saw the photo of that GTR Skyline that Skifey use to race too heheeheh. Ian is a nice bloke, but i never went there for anything except for asking prices for one of his cars.

Yeah it looked much better in the photo than in the flesh as he'd just played kissy kissy with the armco, actually it was more like full on intercourse than just kissy kissy
