ello all. i have had a good search arround the forum but i still cant tell what the problem is exactly.

Here is what happens.

In the morning: starts fine. 1st kick

When i go for a short drive or park it in the sun on a hot day: might start 1st kick, might click, might crank slowly (like the battery is flat).
then all of a sudden after a few attempt and it seems like the battery is flat it will all of a sudden start like nothing was wrong.

I had the alt reco'd a few months ago and i have no idea wtf is going on

What happend today was: .. the car wouldnt start in a parking lot. It cranked slowly like the battery was flat. then clicked... then i recruited a guy for a jump. while it was hooked up it still clicked and still cranked slowly... then people wanted to get passed.. so i unhooked the leeds and the guy moved out the way. then like magic it started.

any ideas ???

Well it could be as simply as the battery terminals being loose or a dying battery.

I doubt if this is the same problem that I had, but for a while my car would do this intermittently due to the transmission not picking up the car was in park.

Next time it happens try putting it in neutral and starting it.

If it works in natural (but not in park) then you might need to have control cable adjusted.

But as I said its probably not the same problem.

sounds to me like the starter motor is your problem.
if the battery is ok, you've just got a reco'd alternator, the fact that the engine is cranking up slowly (assuming battery is fine) and sometimes not, pretty sure it's your starter motor. If that's the problem, it's only a matter of time that you won't be able to start it (unless you tap the starter motor a few times with a hammer or pole).

a few people here has had some problems with their starter motor (common prob. with FTO's), so search and you can read whether those symptoms discussed are like the ones your experiencing.
