Passenger Side Sun Visor vanity Mirrors

Hey Guys,
I was reading through this thread on the FTOOC forums http://www.ftooc.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=25773 in regards to passenger side vanity mirrors (underneath the sunvisor)

It looks like the problem is widespread across the world :)

The gf has been complaining about this for ages now and I think it's time I should do something about it (she keeps winding down her window and looking into the side mirrors!)

My main concern is crash safety, both the type of glass to use and how to mount it (where can you get a saftey glass mirrror?) and asthetics - I dont want it to look out of place!

Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone done it?

I'm thinking I might go to the wreckers to get a mirror and see if I can fit it to the FTO somehow. I might check out the late model magnas and see how they are constructed.

Any suggestions?

Mike

I think a wrekers is pretty good idea, to go there, and take a couple of visors and see how you go...

have you tied car shops? Like Super Cheap or something they may have them... :?

Yeah I tried supercheap, autobarn, kmart, bunnings but no one sold one that was suitable.

I will probably go to pick a part tomorrow and see what I can find if the weather is good.

Ill keep the camry in mind.

I just went to Autobarn & grab the biggest interior mirror that will fit on the sunvisor & use those industrial double sided tape ($30 for 10m) to stick them on, it will never come off as its the same type of tape they use for car badges, & my missy is happy :D

And if you want to go one step further like those Euro's car which had a light turn on when you open the cover for the mirror, all you have to do is get some led & a relay switch. Use the Diagram that Boris had done for Neon in styling section, its basically same idea, but you just hook it up with the sunvisor movement.

Mitsubishi is useless when it comes to confort and small details.
My old lancer didnt had any mirror for ladies as well. Pretty upsetting considering the engineering in this cars.
Also, there is no light in the glovebox as well, I reckon it is a real good idea.

My lancer GSR had a mirror. I might have a look at autobarn but ill probably go with my wrecker idea.

I dont really need a light in the glove box but i want to hook one up for the back seat. I posted a thread where a guy put in a courtesy light - another guy just put in 4 really bright leds.

I couldn't be bothered going to the wreckers this weekend so I bought a mirror from supercheap and some edging from clarke rubber to make a border around the mirror.

I secured it with 3 strips of velcro - it feels pretty sturdy.

Total cost was about $10 - It looks ok but when I have time ill try to see if I can make a nicer one.

what about the light in the ash tray, that was impressive.
your right about the other mitsu's, my gf lancer doesnt even have cup holders, but my sis's mirage does ! But we also have a mitsu nimbus, and that deffinitly has a lot of cool little things, like plently of cup holders, and storage compartments, and it even has a cig lighter thing, that you can use to plug your walkman or other accesories into for power.

Is it just me or are those sun visors totally useless when it comes to doing what they're made to do??

When you flip them to cover the side window it barely covers it at all!!

I bought this small mirror and attach it on the passenger side windscreen so she can have her own mirror to herself and look out for traffic for me. Its like a rear view mirror but much smaller and it magnifies. Its nice and solved my problem.
