What brand of petrol do you use for your fto?

Well, Ive now had my FTO now for a week *yay* \o/
anyways. When i first got it I needed to fill up, closest petrol station was Caltex. So i filled it up with vortex.
I then asked a friend of mine who drives a VL and he said to only use Shell.
Today however, I filled up at BP with the good stuff (cant member what its called). and with in minutes I noticed how much better my car was driving with this fuel in it.
So. What I'd like to know is - What do you usually fill up with? do you find it gives you the best performance from your car? and which petrols would you steer clear of?
Ive never bothered about caring too much with the lancer.
This all of course could be a figment of my imagination.. so tell me am i going nuts or what?

Yeah I also find that BP Ultimate is the best fuel to use, you can notice the difference in the performance and fuel economy.

Most people here use 98RON fuel. This being
>> Optimax
>> BP Ultimate
>> Mobil Synergy (I think)
>> Vortex 98 (The new one, not the 95RON one)
FTO's were designed to high RON fuel, for around town I try to use BP Ultimate, but because the nearest BP Ultimate servo is like 10+km away I sometimes have to use Optimax.
Which is a little bit conroversial, but we wount start an argument. If you want more info why so many people hate optimax then you can do a search there are many many topics about fuel on this forum!
I try to use 98RON fuel around town, but on long trips i use 95RON fuels, the best one being Caltex Vortex IMO.
But it all depends on your car, and what it likes. If you have been using Optimax for a couple tanks, don't expect miracles fuel economy wise when changing to another 98RON fuel, for a couple tanks anyway...

Shell optimax back in 2002 was quite good. but 2003 it changed somehow?
2002 i got about 560 580 on a tank
2003 still with optimax i got about 420
i then turned to BP ulitmate and after a few tanks got it back up to about 540's.

Like Boris said you will find there are lots of "argument" on this topic, not just in this forum, but lots of others cars/performance forum as well, & some even dated back before this forum was started, but BP Ultimate is usually end up to be the favorite.
I found different model of cars will react differently to different kind of petrol, e.g.; all the Nissan I had perform better on Mobil Synergy. So I guess its all depends on the design of the engine & the modification you had done to your car.
At the moment all my cars use BP Ultimate, FTO since day one, the others was previously fill up with Optimax, but once I switch over to Ultimate, I get a smoother acceleration & a bit more mileage.

so basically the great debate comes down to is....
Personal Preference.
I actually really couldnt believe the difference in how smooth my car was driving with the bp ultimate in it.
Looks like i will have to do my own research and experimenting *Puts on lab coat, thick black rimmed reading glasses and graps a clip board*

This is all very interesting. I used to run my VR-4 on Mobil Synergy 8000, but switched to 96 octane (from any convenient station) when I got the FTO. I might have to try some 98 to see how it goes after reading this.
Over here we only get Synergy 8000 or BP Ultimate, and its only available in the main centres.

I think there was such a difference because you went from using 95RON (Vortex) to using 98RON.
There is very slight difference between some 98RON fuels....
One more thing, since your relativly new to your FTO, try not to ever put regular fuel in it (92RON)... The car will run, and you wount blow it up or anything... but you will definatly notice the difference then, engine cry and performance...
Cos i know people that say borrow someones FTO, like family, think oo i'l be nice and put fuel in it.. and they put a full tank of unleaded

Hahhaha yeah that happen to me before as well, & that’s why I use to carry "enough" bottle of octane booster in my boot, so if some "nice" friend/relo decided to fill up with regular again, at least I know I can make it up with the booster.
But now I just won't let anyone else to drive it at all ehheeh a much better solution hahaahahha

I dont think i'd have to worry about anyone putting petrol in my car other than me, except for maybe my bf. Because if i did let them drive my car. They would be too tight arse to put any petrol in it at all..

I only use BP Ultimate, and only ever get it from one particular station.
Unfortunately the previous owner used regular unleaded.

so really.. how bad is it if u use regular unleaded once and again? i find myself going through a moral dilemna everytime i fill up at premium is like, 10-15c extra... is it really that bad?

my car hates unleaded petrol, performance drop big time,
as soon as the BP Premium staff goes into the tank, it starts running crazy again.
Last time I touch to unleaded was more than a year ago, and these days premium looks to me even cheaper to be honest. First time you can get premium under a dolar again this month.

Ok for arguement sake, i'm going to use the full 55L tank as an example, 15c per Litre = $8.25 different per fill up, but 91ron to 98ron makes a hell lot of different, especially if its a FTO GPX, as it was originally design to run on 100ron.
So if you fill up like an average people do, which is 3/4 empty, then that mean you paying around $6.19 extra, but consider the extra mileage you get, you probably paying extra $4-5 dollars at the end of the day.
$4-$5 dollars saving vs better performance & longer lasting engine, i know which one I would pick.

I'm an ultimate fan. I get better economy out of it over other high ron fuels too.
I have heard that BP Ultimate's RON rating is MINIMUM 98, as opposed to Shell's AVERAGE RON of 98

My thumbs to Ultimate but im forced to fill up with Optimax becuz there is not that many BP stations around Mitcham.

i dont find much difference between optimax and ultimate... try them both.. full tanks that is... and record the mileage you get from each.... if youre like me and cant really see any significant difference in mileage or power, just go to the one thats closet to your house
