Any downsides to decatting?

Hi guys, have to get this of my chest...

does decatting have any downsides??

1) worst fuel consumption
2) strong petrol smell
3) pollution to environment

other then the obvious free-er flowing exhaust that will result in a 'quicker' car?

should i go decat? or hi flow cat?

Thanks in advance!
Sam

Ok, mines decatted :D (sounds funny)
Performance, I'm not quite sure as i got the car like this, same as petrol consumpion, not quite sure.

Petrol Smell... a little bit when cold. Pollution is self explanatory

Umm, drawbacks are lot's of carbon get's through so you muffler tip is always black on the inside, there is also legal issues, depending on the state.

But definatly more free flowing. My exhaust setup gives me I think much more top end, not much down low...

Also I get frequent backfires... but that's cos i got extractors, no cat 2.5" all the way... oh and one more thing you car will be louder and if your exhaust is really high flow... and it will become slightly raspy... mine atm is very race... I think anyway...

EDIT: This is what mine sounds btw

Apart from some serious emissions and helping to destroy the environment, it would give minimal gains i would believe. Unless your whole exhaust is really restrictive it wouldn't do a hell of a lot i wouldn't think

Its one of the first mods people do here if they are doing exhaust work, because on some cars it can make quite a difference. In NZ its perfectly normal and common because we have no emissions standards - disgraceful I know, but at least they are on the way sometime next year apparently.

Having said that, I still have mine and it's definitely staying...

Hmm yea...pollution not on the top of the list...ha...
same for the petrol smell, cos mine smells already...
yea...i m sure e tip of e exhuast would be black etc...

anyway, really wanted to know if the petrol consumption will be affected,
so does anyway have any actual figures to back them up?
like un decatted when they got it n monitored till they decatted it?

the difference between a decatted FTO and one with a good quality CAT is about 1-2kW ...
