hey guys just wanna find out if im the only person with this problem
aparently all fto's 95 and magnas etc.. had a special glue used by mitsubishi to glue the struts of the car to the actual metal part of the roof... aparently after a few years it reacts with the metal and starts rusting .. i have a black fto ..
and i have rust bubbles 8O going across the roof 8O where the struts are in 2 lines. front struts and back ones aswell.. ive taken the interior out and had a look but aparently to fix it properly front and back windscreens must be taken out .. and must drill out the spot welds from the struts and pull em down and clean em etc..
am i the only guy with this problem or has this happend to anyone else ?
:?: :( :( :( :(

I didn't know this affected the FTO. But here in NZ this is a big issue mainly with the 92-96 shape Lancer and Mirage series models - the roofs rust for the same reasons as listed above. So I wouldn't be surprised...

With the Lancer, it seems to affect darker coloured cars because they get hotter. The problem is that in heat, the glue material sweats and the moisture generated causes rust. Its quite common to see them with rust bubbles in the roof, and more than one owner of GSRs and Evos have had to go through a full roof replacement at a cost of around $2K NZD. Most people go through the full replacement as if the rust is merely removed from the roof, it almost inevitably comes back. Having said that, some dark Lancers don't get it at all.

But this is the first I've heard of it in the FTO...

According to the UK forum seems to affect black cars moe than any other colour. I have seen a few cars in Japan that are black with roof rust. If you go to www.ftooc.org and in the forum type in roof in the search you will find out how to remove the roof headlining to get to the rust. Seems to have affected other Mitsubishi cars
