First welcome to the forums

With the alternators, most auto electricians just rebuild them, instead of purchasing new ones. You just have to make sure you stumble upon a good auto electrician, who probably has done a few imports...

I'm not sure wether any other ones are compatible. I had mine reconditioned. I can't remember how much but, it really depends on what needs to be replaced in the alternator... My rough estimate would be ~$300+

I'm sure other people will reply with more detailed info...

If you in Melbourne, just go to SL Motorsports, as they already serviced heaps of member's FTO, & thats include alternator problems.

Well, since your new i can probably point out the Search function, labelled with this picture Image. Many topics such as this one have been already discussed, so you may find lot's of stuff that way

So threads like this probably will help you:
 http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... alternator

This is from one of those threads, since your in Sydney:
smorison wrote:hey guys,
My cars booked in here for the weekend. they say it'll take a few days to repair the alternator. They have already done a few FTO's so they know what breaks in the alternators.

quoted me between 400-500 depending on parts.

'A' Class Automotive
Bob Adamson
Unit D3, 2A Victoria Ave
Castle Hill

same complex as Unique Auto Sports.
Also, when choosing a person that hasn't done an FTO before, make sure that he knows of this:

Hope those help

my recommendation is to get one from A Class as they have done many now, including several committee members cars ;)

they offer them on an exchange basis so if you are interstate you only need to ship your old one to them. There work is guarantee'd and the alternators are fully reconditioned.

If anyone in Sydney is looking for another option to get their alternator work done, I can recommend Musico at Smithfield. Was a bit of a learning curve for em as it was their first FTO alternator, but in the end they did a great job.
