Should I buy GPX or GR

Need some help ladies & gents. I've been on the lookout for a GPX for a couple of months now without luck (looked at 16 so far). I'm now considering looking at a couple of GR's that seem quite good.
My question is - is the extra grunt of the GPX - 147kw - actually noticeable over the GR's 135kw? I've struggled to find reputable acceleration times for both the GR and GPX. The charts I've seen only show the MIVEC engine really gaining a clear (i.e >5kw) advantage about 6000rpm (which makes sense - i.e MIVEC zone) and then having a noticeable gap between 7000 & 8000rpm (though obviously the non-mivec will not rev past 7500rpm). Gearbox will probably be a manual.
Performance aside - does the GR offer any advantages due to reduced mechanical complexity with lacking MIVEC? Is the non-mivec engine potentially going to provide less hassles (hoping to get a car with 80 - 90kms on it and keep it for five or so years)
It looks like for around the same price I may be able to choose between an 1995 GPX or a 1997 facelift GR with the only difference being (apart from the age) the engine.
Cheers,
Adam.

Put it this way, With mine, if i have Mivec on, i run flat 7'ns (0-100) when Mivec is off i run 7.8 (0-100).
I had to make a similar decision to you, go for the GPX if you can, unless you don't really care about the power difference. (Unless you get a freak GR)

Both engines will be the same imo... I can't really say that GPX's have more problems then GR's... all FTO's are pretty reliable if you take care of em...
From what i understand, it is better to have a properly serviced 95, then a 97 model that you don't know the history for....
Hope i slightly helped...

hmm quite a difference then

can you believe that of the 16 cars I've looked at, only one owner had anything resembling a service history - this astounds me.
Hope i slightly helped...
definitely - all advice is appreciated

Its really up to you what you buy but here are the benifites of a gpx
* All Luxury and Sports Options
* Not much price difference, except a lot easier to sell the GPX
* More Power !!
* Awesome Exhaust Note (if you havent driven a mivec with an airfilter you havent lived)
* Bragging rights
Now if you want a full sports car that will put a huge grin on your face out of every bend then you should go for a gpx manual
I can tell you i am not biased either, i own a gr, why did I buy a gr then hey ?
Well at the time I had just got my license (17) So when shopping for a car with my dad, I told him I would go for the lesser power model(some thing with around the same acceleration as the mirage is used to drive),, because of my driving experiance (no my dad didnt buy the car for me). My real reason though was Cause I looked everywhere in sydney and I could not find a Nice GPX Manual In Blue, So i thought go for the extra points with my dad and grab a Manual in my favourite colour. and also as soon as i set eyes on my beast to be I WANTED IT !!
I guess I could only really reccomend the gr if you are in a similar position (you found your dream car and its a gr). Or if its a Freak

Turned out my car hauled ass, but do you really wanna settle for second best ?
Anyways thats enough babbling heres some more posts comparing Gr's and GPX's

I think only <20HP difference.
When it gets to modification, not so much difference at all.
And if you are not going to use FTO for race, then GR or GPX doesn't
really matter. What matter at the end is price difference. About $1k
difference due to engine and sometimes GR comes with Mivec Engine
as well.
But check whether Timing belt has been replaced (every 100,000km
must change).
Good luck.

Just though i'd let ya know,
The GPX has 150kw @ 7500rpm and 200Nm @ 6000rpm.
The GR has 127kw @ 7000rpm and 186Nm @ 4000rpm.

And don't just compare power output as a sole consideration either. With these high revving small displacement engines, every bit of torque helps.

i've driven both and not found a heap of difference except the mivec kicking in and the obvious change in noise!!!
In anycase, a manual would be your best bet, and though its stated that the GPX has 147kw, the tiptronic must have a bit of drivetrain loss, hence the slower times..
